The SoundCloud night you never knew you always wanted.

So Future launch - horizontal

If you’ve ever been annoyed that your favourite SoundCloud artists don’t get the play time they deserve at club nights then So Future will almost certainly be up your street. Set up by K2RAH, it’s a night devoted to celebrating the “SoundCloud generation of artists and producers that are creating forward thinking, genre-bending ‘future sounds'”. This means that all manner of genres are well represented, from future bass to footwork, trap, hip-hop, and everything in between. Sound’s good? Oh, and it’s free. We sat down with K2RAH to find out more about the importance of vibes, non-stop dancing, and why IRL > URL.

Who are you and what are you all about?

By day I’m an online and social media content producer at Radio 1 and 1Xtra, and outside of that I’m a bit of a ‘slashie’; DJ/ promoter/ music curator/ photographer/ (inactive) blogger/ whatever else I need to become to make things happen.

What inspired you to set up this night? What should we expect from it?

I started So Future ’cause IRL > URL. There’s a growing microcosm of artists and producers making so much incredible forward-thinking, new music on platforms like SoundCloud. I wanted to take it offline and into a physical space where everyone can enjoy it together, til the bouncer say it’s home time.

Expect fun times and good vibes. And dancing (obvs). Non-stop dancing. Which probably means there’ll be some sweating involved. But that’s cool too – it’ll be a no judgement zone.

What kind of crowd is this for?

For anyone and everyone who wants to have a good time with zero bs attached. It’s as much for the musos as the random guy who rocks up by chance. It doesn’t really matter, let’s just have some fun.

What makes a good night?

The music, the people and the energy. Those three have to be in harmony for it to all come together. You could have the best DJs in the world playing but if the crowd aren’t feeling it and there’s no vibe – you might aswell call it a night.

How should we get ready for the night?

The best thing you can do is get an early one the night before cause you’re gonna need all your energy. Oh and make sure you round up your squad, we don’t want anyone to get left out.

Why The Alibi?

I think some would say The Alibi is one of the greatest basement clubs in all of east London. To an extent there are some parallels between the venue and the night… The character of The Alibi is very ‘rough around the edges’ and kind of grimey, and much of the new music being played at So Future is very D.I.Y, ‘bedroom producer-chic’, so it’s a pretty good match.

Plus, the sound is great and there’s a real house party vibe down there sometimes. Oh and the staff are friendly and the drinks are nicely priced. Sounds like a winner to me

Why K2RAH? What can we expect?

I realised recently that whenever I’m asked “what kind of stuff do you play?”, I tend to give some vaguely ambiguous response that I kinda hope is in line with what the person expected, but also left them a little intrigued.

It would be so much easier if we got rid of genre labels and just described music by emotions and feelings ’cause then I could just say “I play VIBES” and everyone would know what I mean.

So I won’t try and describe what you can expect – you’ll just have to come and experience it for yourself. Then afterwards you can tweet me a more accurate response to the “what does K2RAH play” question? Cool, thx.

Tired of all the nostalgia-drenched 90’s R&B nights in Dalston? What happens when you just need something out-of-control loud, freaky and weird as hell? Collectives SLUGBAIT (a noise-rap and industrial music-obsessed duo) and SORT (makers of all things severe–from fashion and photo zines to concrete objects) are coming together this Friday night for what promises to be one of the most anxiety-provoking, ear-pounding nights of your life: Very Friendly. Promising “all the music you want to hear in a club, but are too afraid to ask”, it’s just the ticket for those of you that prefer hiding in dark corners shuffling your feet, or staring at the DJ in a death-grip-trance. Music-wise, think Mykki Blanco, think Throbbing Gristle, Puce Mary, Young Thug, Depeche Mode… need we go on? We grabbed 60-seconds with SLUGBAIT and SORT and got an exclusive look inside SORT’s photo zine ahead of the official launch at Very Friendly on Friday night.

Very Friendly Flyer 3

What inspired you to set up this night?

SLUGBAIT: I blame society.

What should we expect from it?

SORT: *loud noises*

SLUGBAIT: Noise and destruction. There’s a lot of music that people want to hear in clubs that doesn’t ever get played in them. Also, DJing has become increasingly streamlined and commodified in the UK: it’s not about playing bold, defiant music, it’s about dehydrating the audience for bar gains with soulless, middle of the road background techno.

What kind of music will you be playing?

SORT: Dark music to dance to.

SLUGBAIT: Post-punk, noise rap and everything in-between – anything a bit aggy, visceral and pounding.  Punk agitators and industrial terrorisers.

Why The Victoria?

SLUGBAIT: It’s a dusty old boozer that puts on really decent, adventurous music nights. It’s rumoured that Eastenders’ Queen Vic was based on it, too. Instead of Peggy Mitchell screaming in your face, you can listen to Genesis P-Orridge chant about Ian Brady.

What do you expect/want the crowd to be like?

SORT: Anxious.

SLUGBAIT: We don’t care who comes, as long as they have fun.

How should we get ready for the night?

SORT: Head to your local sex shop for PVC and poppers.

SLUGBAIT: Piss all over your clothes.

Sucuk And Bratwurst.

Club Late Nights is a super-hot new party from young music label-cum-art collective Club Late Music, aka CLM, that gathers DJ’s, producers and artists from around the world. Influenced by club, rave, dance and pop music, their inspirations reflect a contemporary, post-internet attitude and personify the instantaneous and global nature of today’s culture. Sounds a bit of a mouthful, but believe us: it’s a genius combination. Not only this, but the night (which promises to get you dancing ’til your feet burn) is hosted at our fave Dalston party spot, Powerlunches.  Not once have we been in that sweat dripping black box room and not had the time of our lives. See. You. There.

CLUB-LATE-NIGHT-WEB-POSTER

Sucuk And Bratwurst.

What inspired you to set up this night? What should we expect from it?

Club Late Nights is the brand new party from Club Late Music (CLM), a young music label/art collective that gathers DJ’s, producers and artists from around the world. Influenced by club, rave, dance and pop music, our inspirations reflect a contemporary, post-internet attitude and personifies the instantaneous and global nature of today’s culture.

After releasing our first compilation last Summer, we have decided to start Club Late Nights because what we love more than anything in music is to dance, laugh and enjoy.

It was really important to us to throw some events so to gather all our family and friends who we love partying with. This Club Late Night in London is the launch party of our night, but we are planning to host it on a regular basis with some real good guests and friends lined up. Also we are working on another one in Tokyo that will be setting up in January.

The main idea is to meet and bring together people who love dancing, love listening to club, rave and dance and enjoy parties like us. So yeah, for the night all we expect is to dance with people and see them enjoying the night.

Can you tell us a bit about the people playing?

For tonight, the line up is mainly comprised of Club Late Music artists, with more or less the half of the family making an appearance.

First of all, we’re really happy to have Dragon Uma who’s coming from Tokyo for the night. Dragon Uma is without doubt the most incredible DJ we’ve ever known. Before the night in London, he played in Belgium alongside Dave Lux and he played in Paris at Social Club last Thursday.
Then we have Bubbles, an Australian producer based in London, who will be playing. She is influenced by other underground Internet pop movements, « hyper-pop » dance tunes. She is very promising and we are looking forward to see her play. It’s gonna be pink, glittery, unashamedly pop and totally crazy.

We have AZN Girl from Brussels. He (yes, he) told me he’ll probably play some new tunes, so that is gonna be amazing. He always finds the perfect sounds for the perfect moment.
We also have the DJ collective 100% Halal from Berlin. These guys are incredible. They love playing the freshest club tunes that just dropped on Internet. You really need to have a listen on their Soundcloud or their Facebook page because it is visually and musically awesome.
Then there’s Prince Lucien. He is an amazing producer. He’ll mostly be playing live tonight so I think this is gonna be great as well.  We can’t wait to hear his new songs.
Oh and hold on,  we are also really thrilled to have our close friend Merish (from the Belgium based music collective Folie Douce) who will be our guest for tonight.

As you can see, the line up is pretty amazing !

What do you expect/want the crowd to be like?

We’re not really expecting anything in particular, maybe just that people will rave and dance until their feet burn… that’s our main goal here!

Can you tell us a bit about who you are and what you’re about?

To keep it short, there’s two of us behind Club Late Music and so obviously behind Club Late Night but we consider all the CLM guys family. Francois is working as a photographer and I personally have been working in the music business on various projects for years now. I manage some artists, and am co-founder of an artist management and booking agency and run some other music projects. We’ve been working together for a long time now the collaboration has been going pretty well.

Why Powerlunches for the night?

I really love Powerlunches. This venue has an intimate and inspiring atmosphere especially when it’s getting crowded. With a few people and a good vibe, you can turn it  into a real and genuine place for parties.

How should we get ready for the night?

Just come through and let music get into you and don’t forget that once you pop, fun doesn’t stop.

Unique. Creative. Rebellious. Fashionable… What more could you want from your Friday night?

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 09.38.49

With its rich history in eighties New York, Voguing has been popping up all over London’s nightlife scene. Wonderland favourites at the ‘House of Lady Di’ have been taking it one step further with their incredible nights mixing Voguing and Ballroom, ‘REALNESS’. The nights have been held on a regular basis since April this year, giving Voguers and Vogue lovers alike a taste of what the voguing culture is about from their fabulous perspective. Their nights – created to build the Voguing and Ballroom scene in London – have seriously taken off, rapidly becoming the place to experience Vogue culture in the capital. Tonight the House of Lady Di will host their first extravagant KiKi Vogue Ball, taking over Hub16 on Stoke Newington road promising a truly spectacular Vogue night for all. We grabbed a minute with one of its founders, Paleta CalmQuality, to find out more about what’s in store for us tonight. Cancel all of your plans, we can guarantee this is a night not to be missed.

What inspired you to set up this night? What should we expect from it?

Myself (Paleta CalmQuality) Benjamin Milan, divaD Magnifique and Tamsier Joof have been preparing for this night since the beginning of this year when we decided to open our KiKi House ‘House of Lady Di’

Our Students and extended Voguing family members have grown so much over this year and I believe we were able to give them as much as we could to get a feel of what ballroom culture is about.

Now it’s time for Everyone to share what their feeling about the culture is, what they have learned, what they know and even what they don’t know yet (as we are all still growing and learning everyday)

As for us (Paleta, Benjamin, divaD and Tamsier), we are all very passionate about the freedom of expression of who, what and how we are, in our genders our sexuality and our appereance. We believe that London is the place where many people can relate to this passion and we knew that we want have to make this happen to build the community.

So for tonight – be ready for That Unique – Rebelious – Creative – Fashionable London- Spirit where you will find like and open minded people who share a genuine interest and love for the Voguing/ Ballroom Scene and that want to express themselves in a free environment, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation or race!

Can you tell us a bit about the people playing?

Tonight we have Dj’s CVNT TRAXXX, who is Member of the House of Mizrahi and the Dj Collectiove AERIAL ( 199? & AQWEA).

Usually we have Dj Rushmore from Trax Cotoure with us aswell. Unfortunately he can’t be there tonight.

They have been playing at our Previous Vogue Nights and they are part of our family!

What do you expect/want the crowd to be like?

It’s better not to expect anything, so we are open minded and are able to go with the Flow! BUT from our previous experiences with our Vogue nights and from how people have been responding to the event on Facebook we are expecting the place to be packed and people to be ready to Vogue down for their Liiiiffeess!

Can you tell us a bit about who you all are and what you’re about?

I will keep it cute and short on this one! We are the Parents of the KiKi House of Lady Di.Paleta CalmQuality and divaD Magnifique as the Mothers, Benjamin Milan is the Father and Tamsier Joof is the Grandfather.

I (Paleta) am known for my Calm Quality! I have been focusing on New Way since I started but lately have been getting more into Vogue Fem. I am all about individuality and freedom of expression and that shows in my movement aswell as the energy I give of (from what I’ve heard!)

DivaD Magnifique is our Fem Diva and is a member of the legendary NYC Ballroom House ‘House of Magnifique’

Benjamin Milan is known for his very precise and expressive New Way and is a member of the legendary NYC Ballroom House ‘House of Milan’

Tamsier Joof is elegance and grace in person! He has been Voguing down in London since the early 90’s and his New Way is so original

Why HUB16 for the venue?

We have been having our previous Vogue Nights ‘REALNESS’ always at the Hub16.

We love Samantha and Jason who have been supportive with our vision and how we do it from day 1. we really appreciate that and we love the vibe that we have been able to spread and create in the hub16. We want to keep that positive spirit going and eventhough it’s gonna be paaacked, we wanted to share this Historical Night for London and for House of Lady Di with the team that we have built over this year.

How should we get ready for the night?

Bump some Voguing tracks, have your look ready and get yourself in that fierce freedom zone. Don’t think about the competition but about the good vibes, sharing with each other and really enjoy yourself!

Looking for one night where you can hear dream pop and German new wave in the space of a couple of hours? Head to Darklands.

Screen Shot 2015-10-29 at 10.16.41

After a wildly successful debut night, Gift Records are back with Darklands at The Alibi. DJ Rhys who describes the night as having a “black on black ethos”, we’re going goth. Playing rock ‘n’ roll, industrial, post punk, synth AND disco (phew) you’ll hear the likes of Wire, Cabaret Voltaire, Gang of Four, Soft Cell, Ultravox and Au Pairs all night long. Not forgetting the performance of the evening from Drift, the enigmatic newcomer’s debut show, expect groaning, droning synths set against eery vocals – music to drunkenly sway to in your own world.

We sat down with DJ Rhys to talk all things Darklands including how to dress for a post-punk industrial 80s disco. We’ll see you at The Alibi, one of our favourite east London venues on the 4th for some genre-mashup dance offs. No excuses, because best of all, it’s free!

DRIFT.

This is your second night at The Alibi, any standout successes from the first time around you’re trying to recreate?

Having only one act then DJs afterwards worked really well. Also the feel of The Alibi naturally suits the dark, underground aesthetic that we’re after.

What made you decide to put on Drift’s debut show? What can we expect from her?

We thought her hazy vocals and minimal dark synth sounds would be perfect for our night and flow really well with the rest of the music played.

https://soundcloud.com/driftinsound/dreams-in-silkscreen

Can you tell us about each of your DJ’s sets? Do each of you prefer to play different kinds of genres?

We usually all play all different genres, this time around we’ve asked Tess Parks to play some rock ‘n’ roll, dream pop and noise. So I’ll leave that to her and play more industrial, new German wave and disco. And Roberto will be revolved around synth and post punk. There are usually always crossovers.

You’ve got an eclectic mix going on, what kind of crowd are you expecting?

We’d like a crowd who were there for the music really but understand that The Alibi usually tends to bring in all sorts of people. Since we are playing rock ‘n’ roll, post-punk guitar music as well as disco, synth and electronic music. We’d like to think of it as the ultimate balance of the best tracks from those genres.

What should we wear? Dressed to the nines? Full 80s makeover? Goth?

Whatever really, but the night definitely does have a dark, black on black ethos. Unpretentious, comfortable and genuine is the spirit.

Why are you setting up shop at The Alibi (one of our faves)?

The space it’s self is really great and the small DIY back room for acts is exactly what we were after, a smallish to medium sized venue to continue the high in.

You’re looking to turn this into a monthly night, how do you see it expanding?

We already have our eyes on another act perfect for the next night. We’ll continue to keep the core elements and keep adding new, interesting people to collaborate with.

Darklands is on 4th November at The Alibi, Dalston.

lot of dancing, outrageous outfits, messy drag queens and drunk straight girls. Welcome to your new favourite night: BUM.P

image1

What do you do when the soaring rent in London causes all your favourite nighttime hangouts to close down? Start your own night, obviously. At least that’s what you do if you’re Wonderland’s Fashion Editor, Nicco Torelli and best friend (and architect/queer film maker) Samuel Douek. The duo, who’ve danced nights away together unstoppably for the past eight years, debut their club night BUM.P tomorrow at VFD (formerly Vogue Fabrics) in Dalston.

The revolutionary new night draws its inspiration from the crazy dance parties circa 2008 like Batty Bass and Boom Box (the boys assure us the alliteration is coincidental) and will bring together emerging performance talent from the queer art, music and performance scene with London’s best DJs from the old days and new. We grabbed a minute with Nicco and Sam to find out what to expect, how to dress and what to do to get ready for the night of our lives.

image1 2

What inspired you to set up this night? What should we expect from it?

There’s so much talk of places closing down in East London and many closures sadly happened in 2015 (Joiners and Nelsons Head ) and few other have been announced (George and Dragon ) and we have decided to stop complaining about places closing down and put out our own night: BUM.P

We want the night to be really fun and dancey, reminiscent of the Trailer Trash / Best Before day. A lot of gay nights these days are quite cruisy, we just want to create a really lively, inclusive and wild night.

Can you tell us a bit about the people playing?

Jacqui Potato AKA Julian Smith defines himself as a brain dead tranny, but he’s a respectable lecturer at a couple of London universities and an amazing DJ as well.

James Phillips is the founder of the night Best Before which was an amazing night in 2010/2012 with a huge number of people involved.

Charles Jeffrey is a Fashion East selected fashion designer from Central Saint Martins and also club kid. He is founder of the night Loverboy and supreme leader of the Loverboys.

Mischa Mafia is an amazing DJ and also a stylist.

What do you expect/want the crowd to be like?

We’ve mentioned how you’ll be able to find everyone and anyone at BUM.P and even though the crowd might fall into groups of narrow social definiton, the purpose of the event is to unite everybody in the space as a whole, gay / straight / bent / awkward / messy / loud/ bitchy – WHATEVER. Just come and have fun

Can you tell us a bit about who you are and what you’re about?

The BUM.P team are best friends Nicco Torrelli and Samuel Douek. After 8 years of interminable dancing together we have decided to start our own thing. Basically we were bored of not being able to listen to the music that we wanted to dance to when we went out. We’re more or less bringing Nicco’s lounge into Dalston and opening it up for everybody. Whilst the foundation of our friendship has been epic dance sessions and endless lols (obvs), we have also spent countless hours debating and theorising over the London scene and our place in it. Our passion about the closure of queer spaces and the threat to the community is part of the reason why we decided to start BUM.P.

Why Vogue Fabrics?

For us, East London has been the epicentre of London’s creative scene since the 2000s. Whilst it has disperesed from Shoreditch towards Hackney and is even heading south of the river, we felt that Dalston continues to stand as a beacon of London’s hedonistic culture. This is no truer than VFD (formerly Vogue Fabrics). Whilst some clubs have come and gone as crowds fluctuate and scenes change, Vogue Fabrics has maintained its position as the icon of Dalston, hub to most of the new exciting nights available. This is solely due to the fantastic team who operate it and have welcomed us with open arms and contributed towards the excitement. Lyal, Angela and Charles are a dream team and the venue itself is the perfect destination to launch our new night.

How should we get ready for the night?

Get ready for the night by planning a killer outfit. You need to look your best or your worst whatever you want just GO FOR IT. With early performances and later DJs you need to start working out some choreography with your friends or by yourself and getting excited. Its going to be ridic. Obvs come.

Over the past few years, Endless – a collective of some of London’s most exciting underground producers – have become known for their wildly unpredictable parties, dropping everything from bashment to afrobeat to gabba in a host of roaming locations.

Tonight, Endless export Kamixlo hosts a club night at Dalston dive club Bar-A-Bar, to celebrate his highly-anticipated EP, “Demonico”, out today. Mashing reggaeton, grime, noise and every unpredictable twist you can imagine, the five-track is a thrilling, eardrum-trashing journey into the unknown.

Kamixlo is also part of Bala Club, a collective of singers, songwriters and producers from south London he founded in 2013 with uli-k and Blaze Kidd.

Tonight’s Bala Club instalment promises to to be one of the most eclectic and exciting nights you’ve been to in a long time. Ahead of it, Kamixlo offered Wonderland an entertaining, if slightly cryptic, insight.

What inspired you to set up this night? What should we expect from it?

To celebrate the release of my debut EP ‘Demonico’ and to have a party which is not strictly DJs all night.

What do you expect/want the crowd to be like?

Angels and demons.

What makes a good night?

Unpredictability.

How should we get ready for the night?

Watch some Shinsuke Nakamura matches.
