Domestic drudgery and cut-out imagery collide in Prada‘s new film for autumn/winter 2013.

What’s that in the corner? Oh, a Siamese cat. Wait, don’t pick up the phone! Oh, too late. And who’s that looking through the window?

Prada takes a very domestic tack to their latest noir-influenced campaign video. Shot by AMO, the models slide in and out of a graphic cut-out background, performing mundane household tasks that nonetheless have a slightly, well, sinister feel (best use of suspenseful jazz music ever?). Prada describes it as a “world of distorted normality” of “sophisticated domestic imagery”, and it serves up a brilliant reminder of Miuccia Prada‘s AW13 presentation, which saw the collection staged with spinning ceiling fans, lingering black cats and mysterious silhouettes in the doorway.

It’s also the first time that the label’s menswear and womenswear collections have been showcased in the same campaign film, which makes perfect sense – there’s nothing that adds to that edge of domestic tension than a mysterious phone call or two.

In an exclusive first look, Lazy Oaf gives a rude girl punch for it’s Autumn ’13 collection lookbook.

WOMENS LOOKBOOK 06

Amidst piles of leaves and smokestacks comes an Autumn babe that’s smokin’ in her own right. The Autumn ’13 collection lookbook from Lazy Oaf shows the seasonal Nineties nostalgia trends with zany prints and sporty silhouettes, but with a signature brand twist. For Lazy Oaf, it’s all about the hip, lollipop-licking rude gals, equipped with long, bedazzled nails, enormous hoop earrings and brains to match. In line with this rude gal’s more vampy autumn attitude, the colour palette of the collection consists of deep blacks, bright reds and antique golds.

Referencing this hip chick’s smartpants ways, the collection deviates from the brand’s usual ironic fast food prints, instead embracing prints with more historical significance, such as the Caesar bear motif of Roman mythology or psychedelic Aztec patterns that cascade down cropped sweats, leggings and figure-hugging jersey dresses. But if there is one statement piece, it’s the  fluff-to-the-touch “In Da Hood” cropped hooded jackets, that truly brings this hypnotic street beats collection full circle.

Another day, another AW13 ad – this time, it’s Cara Delevingne for DKNY’s fall campaign video.

Other than that brief season Skrillex was a G-Star spokesperson (yep, it happened), fashion has never exactly been au fait with dubstep. But given the rising popularity of the genre in the States, it makes sense that DKNY’s chosen to soundtrack its latest ad with a particularly abrasive EDM track. (Plus, the face of DKNY, a certain party-hardy Cara Delevingne, has most definitely been to an illegal rave or two in her time.)

The Mikael Jansson-directed ad follows Delevingne as she leaps onto cars, pulls pretzels apart and raves it up in the city alongside model Ollie Edwards and New York-based artist Curtis Kulig, who can be seen tagging the city with a custom DKNY signature.

Liked this? Watch other AW13 campaign videos here.

Hitchcock heroines meet a sinister casting director in Prada‘s campaign film, shot by Steven Meisel.

“You’re overreacting.” “Will you keep your voice down?” “Do it again.” According to Prada, its new campaign film all takes place “under the glare of the spotlight and the watchful gaze of the casting director”.

Nine hopeful actresses – played by Amanda Murphy, Cameron Russell, Caroline De Maigret, Catherine McNeil, Fei Fei Sun, Freja Beha, Kristine Froseth, Malaika Firth and Sophia Ahrens – stalk in and out of the lens, reciting lines that sound more like foreboding preludes to the climax of a Hitchcock film.

Call it creepy, call it sinister – either way it’s the most dramatic campaign film we’ve seen this season. We just hope these models made the cut.

Naomi Campbell Opening Versace Couture

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Naomi Campbell kicked off the autumn/winter 2013 haute couture collections in Paris last night by opening Versace. This is kind of amazing.

Campbell shot to superstardom as one of Gianni’s favorite models (she still describes him as a “brother”). But she hasn’t worked with the label for 15 years since she fell out with Donatella – Campbell announced at an impromptu press conference that the latter had been “treating [her] like a stranger for months“.

Happily, it seems that the two have patched up just in time for AW13. As Donatella puts it: “I started this Atelier Versace collection by dreaming about the perfect aesthetic of the black-and-white era. I wanted to make it new, and pictured a sexy and sophisticated woman with a strong attitude. Only a true icon like Naomi Campbell could open this show.”

After all, nothing screams Naomi Campbell more than a plunging, bejeweled basque. So in honour of Campbell’s return to the runway, we thought we’d list 12 more of our favourite Naomi moments.

Naomi Campbell racing a cheetah for Jean Paul Goude

1. That time she raced a cheetah

Jean-Paul Goude’s spin on Richard Avedon’s 50s photographs saw Campbell run with a cheetah for Harper’s Bazaar. Obviously, the cheetah lost.

Naomi Campbell Chanel bikini

2. That time she wore a crotchtastic Chanel bikini

Not everyone can get away with a Chanel-branded crotch logo. Unless you’re Naomi Campbell, that is.

Naomi Campbell falling on Vivienne Westwood runway

3. That time she fell over at a Vivienne Westwood show and just styled it out

Most models look terrified when they slip on the runway. In 1993, Naomi made it look fun.

4. That time she appeared on Absolutely Fabulous

Joanna Lumley and Naomi Campbell are a match made in heaven.

Naomi Campbell Swan book launch

5. That time she wrote a novel

Yes, Naomi Campbell has written a book. That would be 1997’s Swan. (Make that ghostwritten. Campbell explained that she “just did not have the time to sit down and write a book”).

6. That time she tried to launch a singing career

In 1995, she released her album babywoman. This single reached No. 40 on the UK charts. For some inexplicable reason, the video features Naomi as a Bollywood circus dancer.

7. That time she appeared on Cribs

She bought the house in Jamaica where Ian Fleming wrote all the James Bond novels, because she could.

Kate Moss with Naomi Campbell

8. All the times she went clubbing with Kate Moss

If we could somehow live inside a photo, it would be this one.

Naomi on The Face gif Naomi on The Face gif

Coco Rocha on The Face gif Naomi on The Face gif

9. This exchange between Coco Rocha and Naomi on The Face

Why are we so excited about this show coming to the UK? This is why.

10. That time she appeared in a Michael Jackson video

Before Michael Jackson’s plastic surgery exploits took a turn for the worst, he made this video. And it’s still fucking amazing.

11. Every time she walks a runway, period

There’s a reason she’s an OG supermodel. If you need any more convincing, check out the video Susie Bubble shot at Versace yesterday. There’s Naomi walking… and then there’s all the other lesser models.

This week in Brand BuzzWarehouse calls on all aspiring stylists with this new, interactive AW13 campaign competition.

Brand Buzz WAREHOUSE Style Me If You Can with text

For its AW13 campaign, British high street label Warehouse takes the Clueless “I don’t rely on mirrors” approach ( for the, like, so  Nineties trends) with a new, interactive styling tool.

Dubbed “Style Me If You Can,” the Warehouse campaign allows the participants to choose the area and occasion they deem stylish, then style the model for that  occasion. Each self-made stylist will then create a mood board of their creations that will be shared within the Warehouse website’s customised social media outlets.

Besides finding the perfect romper for alternative book-cum-coffee shop browsing in Daltson, the Warehouse Style Me If You Can campaign offers the chance for novice stylists to win an impressive prize. Chosen by the Warehouse team, the nine best outfits will be featured in both a film and print campaign, accredited to each stylist. Additionally, the stylists will win an “i-escape” trip for two to a chosen fashion capital: New York, Milan or Paris.

The competition ends this Friday, with the films of the winning stylists appearing in August. So what are you waiting for? Start styling!

The Warehouse Style Me If You Can Competition ends Friday June 21st.

The campaign video for Hedi Slimane’s love-it-or-hate-it autumn/winter collection has dropped. Featuring Cara Delevingne and DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith, it features all the classic Hedi hallmarks: moody, washed-out LA tunes? Check. Grunge-y overtones and devil-may-care styling? Check. Oblig indie boy? Check.

It’s not exactly a conventional campaign video (think static images overlaid on top of each other) but it makes a change from Slimane’s earlier black and white campaigns. So, not exactly conventional YSL – but then again, this is Saint Laurent we’re talking about.

Part 2 is expected in mid June. Check out the campaign images below.

Jylle Navarro Autumn/Winter 2013

Febrile, fertile London: the birthplace of many an eccentric designer or out-there fashion idea. Jylle Navarro, like many of her techno-coloured, rave-ready folk, exemplifies the capital’s best qualities when it comes to design: namely, its experimental, no-holds-barred approach and its willingness to get down and have a good time. We speak to the knitwear designer about the best city in the world.

How do you think London has defined you as a fashion designer?

I think with London it has both influenced my work as well as encouraged me to avoid the current trends and styles. With my larger more creative designs I don’t let it influence me but with pieces which I want people to buy and see as some they can wear themselves I try to think about what would work for them better.

Where do you go for inspiration?

For my inspiration I usually go with what I see is influencing people now in the world and then develop it into a more creative idea. At the moment I am very interested by Bowie. It’s a very good time for him and he fits in well with my latest collection which is heavily influenced by symbolic alien icons.

Jylle Navarro Autumn/Winter 2013

Who has been your favourite celebrity to dress or see your clothes on?

My favourite people to dress are McGaffE and My Bad Sister. These girls are amazingly talented and excellent performers.

Most played on your iTunes?

At the moment I’ve been listening to Bowie and Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ new stuff. Some Amanda Palmer and Evil Cowards.

How did you become a fashion designer?

I wanted to be a fashion designer since I was young so I kept going in that direction however my personal style and knit influence has only come about in the last few years.

How do you construct all your pieces?

I mostly use a knit machine and hand sew together however I also do, knit, macrame and tassel by hand also. Depends on the piece.

There seems to be a lot of engineering and experimentation involved.

Yes. I like think the process I use works which is to not completely know what the finished product will look like. I tend to change my ideas for a final garment halfway though making it.

Jylle Navarro Autumn/Winter 2013

Tell me about how you get from concept to finished product?

I start by an influencing idea. I then put together whatever yarns and materials I can find that fits. I have an idea of what I want to make in my head so I start to make it but it usually develops very quickly. Once it’s knit I sew it together and add extras if needed.

What are your favourite places to eat, hang out, go dancing in London?

I’m a big Sink the Pink fan. Those girls know how to have a good time. And Cult Mountain is a cafe, shop and gallery. They have the best new designers and artists and the best coffee.

What is your favourite street in London?

Tough question. I really can’t think of a specific one. I just love all of London.

Next thing you think will influence your next collection.

I think I might got for a John Waters style freak and fetish collection.I’m thinking grown men in knitted baby bonnets.

What do you plan on doing in the future?

I plan on creating a new print collection, dressing more performers, setting up an online shop, collaborating with other designers, and making some short videos.

Sisley celebrates its romantic AW13 collection with Georgia May Jagger and lovah Josh McLellan in this behind-the-scenes video.

GeorgiaMayJaggerJoshMcLellanSisleycarkiss

Sisley is certainly putting a little post-summer sizzle into its Autumn Winter 2013 collection. Predictable puns aside, the new campaign, featuring real life hot couple Georgia May Jagger and Josh McLellan, focuses on the romantic and carefree attitude of the collection. For its 2013 collections, Sisley combines LBDs and elegant tweeds with rustic capes and classic denims– the perfect brand for stylish, up and coming couples like Jagger and McLellan.

Branding itself as a “bridge brand,” Sisley AW13 focuses on impeccable quality as well as fair pricing. For the campaign, Georgia May and her delectable beau prance around swings, gardens and interiors of the elegant Manoir Hotel in Paris (it is the city of romance, right?). But let’s not convince you this campaign is sickly sweet — Georgia May Jagger is BFF’s with Cara Delevingne and the daughter of Jerry Hall and Mick, after all, and gives Sisley a very sex kitten twist — with the help of Josh McLellan, of course. Watch the video of the campaign behind-the-scenes below.
