WATCH: PRADA’S ‘REAL FANTASIES’ AUTUMN/WINTER CAMPAIGN FILM

Domestic drudgery and cut-out imagery collide in Prada‘s new film for autumn/winter 2013.

What’s that in the corner? Oh, a Siamese cat. Wait, don’t pick up the phone! Oh, too late. And who’s that looking through the window?

Prada takes a very domestic tack to their latest noir-influenced campaign video. Shot by AMO, the models slide in and out of a graphic cut-out background, performing mundane household tasks that nonetheless have a slightly, well, sinister feel (best use of suspenseful jazz music ever?). Prada describes it as a “world of distorted normality” of “sophisticated domestic imagery”, and it serves up a brilliant reminder of Miuccia Prada‘s AW13 presentation, which saw the collection staged with spinning ceiling fans, lingering black cats and mysterious silhouettes in the doorway.

It’s also the first time that the label’s menswear and womenswear collections have been showcased in the same campaign film, which makes perfect sense – there’s nothing that adds to that edge of domestic tension than a mysterious phone call or two.
