How were you scouted?

I was scouted by a local label called Spell in my hometown of Byron bay. I was walking to the beach and they asked me if I wanted to do a shoot for them. I thought it sounded like a fun idea, and after that I finished high school and was picked up by an agency in Sydney.

What’s been your favourite moment so far as a model?

Doing loops and flips in an old fashioned open top two-seater plane for a shoot in Budapest! That was surreal.

Who’s your ultimate model pin-up?

Anja Konstantinova. She has the most strikingly unique beauty inside and out. I’ve always looked up to her as a model, and now we are super good friends.

Have you ever been shot in a piece you wanted to take home? We love the sphere pink earrings from your Seascapeshoot!

All the time! I love getting to play dress up at work. Not long ago I got to wear this fantastic Valentino rainbow dress.

Your Insta is so lush and green, we’re appreciating the foliage. Where would be your dream wild holiday?

Thank you. I absolutely love the outdoors, and definitely like to upload a pic that’s easy on the eye. Right now, I’m dying to go back to India. Also the Andaman Islands off the coast of India, where elephants swim freely in the beautiful turquoise oceans!

And you’ve got so many snaps of furry friends! If you were an animal, what would you be?

I think I would be a Wallaby, an Aussie one. I’m always hopping all over the joint.

Your Miu Miu glittery sunglasses are gorgeous! What’s one piece of clothing you couldn’t live without?

I love those groovy glasses, I had them in red and then had to get them again in lilac! The item that comes with me everywhere is a vintage denim jacket I bought in Portland years ago. It’s got rainbow embroidery and beading all over it! I like to think of it as my lucky jacket.

Your Shining twins costume is incredible. What’s your favourite film?

I was very proud of my best friend and I when we managed to pull those costumes off a day before Halloween! We actually bought those dresses from a kid’s department store in Brooklyn. However, my favourite film is Austin Powers – I just can’t decide which one. The costume design on all of those films just makes me want to dress like I’m going to a 1969 disco every day!

You’ve posted about Bluesfest a couple of times, did you enjoy it? Who’s your favourite band?

Bluesfest Byron Bay is an absolute must. My parents work super hard all year around to put it on and it is growing bigger and bigger by the year. I’ve now attended 17 out of nearly 22 years of being on this earth – lucky me! My favourite band to listen to at the moment is Tame Impala. Their new album is brilliant!

How were you scouted?

I was scouted by Jakub at Latitude festival last summer. I signed with Elite London and Jakub the photographer of this shoot is my mother agent. He looks out for me like a big brother!

You’ve walked at LFW, where might people have seen you before?

So far I’ve also done shoots for All Saints, Hunger Magazine and Urban Outfitters.

What’s been your highlight as a model so far?

Working with passionate and interesting people is definitely the biggest highlight. Also, I have been able to travel and experience different cultures first hand, something I find fascinating.

Do you have a dream designer/photographer/brand you’d love to work with?

I love the work of Peter Lindbergh, he captures so much emotion beautifully in his work.

Did you want to be a model growing up?

I never even considered it until I was scouted! I was planning on studying anthropology at university once I finished sixth form.

Have you just finished your exams? Congrats if so! What have you done this summer?

Yes thank you. I loved sixth form but I’m so happy to have finished, I get my results very soon! So far I’ve gone on holiday with my family and then with friends. And I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Los Angeles, Miami and Buenos Aires for modelling!

You seem to have been travelling loads, where’s your favourite place in the world?

Despite travelling to so many places lately, my favourite place in the world is still London, I feel so at home there, it’s where I was born and live today.

Have you ever had any model mishaps?

I tripped on a wire at a casting once, funnily enough I didn’t get to walk for that designer!

Who’s your ultimate model pin-up?

It has to be a Karlie Kloss, I’m a huge fan of her philanthropic work, I hope to do the same in the future.

Wonderland: Hi Sofia, so how were you scouted?

Sofia: In an exhibition in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

W: What’s your favourite part of modelling?

S: Travelling and meeting interesting people from different cultures.

W: What was it like growing up on a farm?

S: I felt like an avatar, I need nature, fresh air, grass and wonderful colours to survive because I was born in it!

W: You’re currently based in Paris, but if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

S: This is my moment to try and live in different cities but I would like to to live somewhere by the beautiful sea, where I could enjoy the sunrise and sunset every day.

W: When you were younger you did a lot of classical dancing, would you have liked to have been a dancer if you weren’t scouted?

S: Maybe, I also play the piano and I like cinema too, so I have many projects I could do.

W: You’ve done a lot of editorial work but if you could pick your favourite shoot, which would it be and why?

S: Every shoot that that I’ve done is different. I feel different emotions, have a cool teams and they always give me something to make me happy and learn more about m self. I’ve really enjoyed all of them, it would be impossible to choose only one.

W:What’s been your favourite show to walk in to date?

S: I am in love with some designers who transmit a moment, a situation where something happens. I am so proud to have been able to share moments with Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto, they are icons and more than just big designers.

How were you scouted?

Walking down Camden High Street with my friends when I was 13, Hannah one of my bookers came up to me and started talking to me about Select and that I should come in to see them. After that, I realised it was the same agency my mum was with and also my dad at the end of his career! I was due to go in a see them in the next year or so, it was pure coincidence.

Where are you from?

Wimbledon, London. #wimbledonmassive

What’s been your favourite moment as a model so far?

I’ve just shot something exciting, which I cant say! But also working with great make up artists like Lisa Eldridge and Pat McGrath has been amazing.

Has there ever been a piece you’ve worn for a shoot you wished you could take home?

Yes, they were high waisted baby pink woollen mom pants that fitted me perfectly, and a short candy striped crop top, it was my ideal outfit.

You’re always posting pictures of vinyls, do you collect? Is there a dream record you wish you owned?

Yes I do collect. Although my family already has most the records I could ever wish for. We’ve owned a record player for as long as I can remember. We have everything from Michael Jackson to Barrington Levy, Fleetwood Mac to Mr Fingers.

You’re going to Tokyo in June! Any plans?

Work as hard as I can! Enjoy my experience…. Try all the food that’s available!

We’ve seen your snaps of your pink and purple hair, what’s your best hair tip?

To make your hair super smooth, especially when I had mine coloured to mermaid hair, everyday soak it I’m coconut oil to keep it hydrated naturally and it feels so lush.

There’s lots of Leo Di Caprio love on your insta, who’s your ultimate crush?

LEONARDIO DICAPRIO of course! He is perfect! I loved him in every movie especially the beach! I thought him and Gisele made a beautiful couple.

Who’s your ultimate model pin-up?

I’d have to say Gemma Ward or Lara Stone.. Such amazing women and great inspirations!

What was your first shoot like? 

Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, it felt really strange at first to have my hair and make-up done and then of course when the first photos were taken it was so surreal all eyes were on me, so I was really nervous, but eventually I calmed down and had a blast!

Have you ever had any model mishaps?

None to date but maybe just getting lost in London trying to find a casting and often I have to ring my mum while she’s at work to help me out. Lol!

You’ve done some tennis training with Judy Murray! Are you any good, reckon you could beat us in a match?

Haha yeah I guess I’m quite good and we will have to see about that!

What else do you like to do with your spare time?

I like to play netball too, chill with my friends and there’s nothing like sitting down and watching a good film.

What’s been your favourite moment as a model to date?

Probably walking for Marques Almeida during LFW, It was my first show, kinda scary at first but I loved the thrill and adrenaline.

You were the star of our trends shoot for the Spring Fashion Issue, which was your favourite look?

I really loved the brown suede Gucci coat and the Gucci python heels #head2toeGucci.

What would be your dream show to walk in?

Marc Jacobs or Alexander Wang in New York, either Burberry or Topshop in London, and definitely Saint Laurent or Balenciaga in Paris!

How old are you?

I’m 21 years old.

Where are you from?

I’m from Trinidad and Tobago.

Do you have any siblings?

I have 2 half brothers and a half sister.

How were you scouted?

I was at a fashion show in Trinidad at one of the secondary schools there. They put on a fashion show annually to raise funds for their school and my best friend wanted me to come model with her (I refused over and over until she convinced me) and my agent approached me and told me that I should enter his competition (which had already started 2 weeks ago) and I ended up winning!

Did you always want to be a model?

No, not really. In Trinidad beauty pageants were more of an ‘in’ thing than modelling in general, and a lot of people even today don’t know that there’s a huge difference between pageantry and modelling. I always refused to do anything of that sort, but now I’m glad I went along with it when it happened because now I love modelling.

Where’s been the best place you’ve been so far?

Maybe I’m just biased when it comes to my home but the best place I’ve been to so far is Tobago. My first time going there was actually only last November and it’s so beautiful and relaxing! I had an amazing time there with some great friends of mine.

Have you had any model mishaps?

I haven’t had any major mishaps, but just little things like my shoe slipping off on the runway, and one time one of the lighting equipment exploded while I was on set. No one got hurt of course, but a compilation of those little things definitely makes the day more interesting.

What’s been your favourite show you’ve been in so far?

My favourite thus far has been Tom Ford. Even from when I first met him at the casting to the evening of the show he was super nice and polite, and the atmosphere at the show was unlike any other, so amazing and sophisticated!

Who’s your favourite designer at the moment?

It’s so hard for me to choose, because as a person I’m not just one way. I love different designers for different reasons, however I am loving Olivier Rousteing and what he is doing at Balmain right now.

What’s your favourite food?

Hands down it would be pasta. I never get tired of that. I’m actually about to have some right now lol.

What do you do in your time off?

I just like to take that down time to do stuff with my mother or my friends, like enjoying the day, or shopping. Just simple things that allow me to have quality time with people I love when I’m not running around like a headless chicken!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I don’t SEE myself anywhere in 10 years. I’ve come to learn a long time ago that seeing oneself doing a specific thing at an estimated time period in their life doesn’t make too much sense. Of course it’s necessary to have goals and ambition but sometimes we’re so focused on that one thing that we completely miss something else that may have been better for us or could have been our true destiny.

But, by then I would have liked to have a beauty campaign under my belt, hopefully some fun cool commercials and I would like to be at that level in my career where my card goes up on the board for a job before I even get to the casting because I’ve been around working with different people and I’ve created a such a good reputation for myself that clients look forward to meeting me!

What else do you like to do in your spare time? 

Spare time? In London? Haha! I’m a bit of a workaholic so If I do have spare time it’s spent with friends, taking photos, drinking tequila, having a laugh and the occasional last min holiday.

We’ve been looking at your Insta – you went to see Die Antwoord recently! Who else are you into?

Ah yes! Die Antwoord are pretty amazing. I’m going to Miami to see them at Ultra Festival too. My music taste is so broad it can vary from la dispute and metal to trance, bashment, rap, r&b the list continues.. I’m all over the place with my taste! I love music.

Where were you scouted?

It’s actually quite embarrassing… I was at boarding school, and each summer there’s a big tennis competition between the different boarding school students in Hunstanton. At the end of the week, there’s a huge, really cheesy and quite awkward foam party that everyone goes to… there was a scout at the entrance who approached me and asked me if I fancied being a model. I was 15 at the time.

You’re horse-riding in your Instagram picture, would you say you’re a country girl or a city girl?

I was brought up in Leicestershire, among the trees and fields and learnt to ride at a young age. I spent my childhood running about outside with my sister. Nowadays I’m much more of a city girl: I love the hustle and bustle of the city, and I adore always being busy. There’s something to see, something to do, somewhere to go at all times – you don’t get that in the countryside.

Lots of pretty pink cocktails photos too, if you were going to take us out for a drink, where would we go?

My favourite place is Raymond Blanc’s brasserie in Covent Garden. I discovered it on a school Drama trip with my best friends 2 years ago, and now whenever we’re all in London together, we go there for drinks. Their food is also amazing!! I also love the Kensington Roof Gardens; I had a shoot there once and have been back a couple of times since!

You’ve been on holiday to Greece this year, where’s your idea of paradise?

Lounging on the beach getting a tan, with an exciting book, good company and many swims in the sea. My book-reading isn’t necessarily very intellectual (I had enough of that at school!): I’ve just finished reading all the Bridget Jones books and have read every Dan Brown book during my various holidays.

You’ve just finished school, did you always want to be a model or are you planning on doing anything else?

I love modelling to bits, and I’m also quite academic. I’m lucky to have received a scholarship to Leeds University next year to study International Business, which I’m really looking forward to. I want to go into the business side of fashion later on in life so that I can carry on using the amazing opportunities and experiences that I’ve been given through modelling!

What’s been your favourite shoot or show to work on so far?

I’ve been extraordinarily lucky to have worked with some big names in fashion. That said, I think the most fun I’ve ever had on a shoot was when I was shooting lingerie in Hampstead Heath. I spent the day running around practically naked, with an amazing team who were stood on watch in case someone creepy-looking came along… we’d then hear our secret word shouted across the heath. Unfortunately, our word turned out to be ‘sausages’, which isn’t the best thing to be shouted out in Hampstead Heath if it lives up to its reputation!!!
