Keen to swallow your loose change and bury themselves on your shoulder, there’s a cheeky trio crawling into Harrods this Friday.

Inspired by modernist metalwork sculptures and featuring archival elements designed by Bonnie Cashin – their first ever creative director – COACH Creatures are as iconic as any ordinary COACH bag with one twist: each has a unique face constructed from the bag’s functional features on the glove-tanned leather.

Having already sold out in the US and with only 60 units in the collection, you’ll have to be stealthy to get your hands on one of the 3 key styles: the Taxi Tote, the Mini Crossbody and the Surrey Satchel.

Legendary DJ MistaJam explores Nottingham for the British segment of Palladium’s AW14 Explorer series

As the beating heart of the Midlands club scene, it made sense for MistaJam to explore his native Nottingham for the UK edition of Palladium’s ten-part Explorer Series.

While he may be a regular at international clubs like Ibiza’s Space, and set to perform at Snowbombing next year, the film proves that MistaJam has yet to forget his roots. Considering himself neither a Northerner or a Southerner but a contented Midlander, he offers an insider’s guide to the city that raised him.

Starting at the location of his first ever DJ-set, we follow MistaJam to the magnet for B-Boys, Fly Girls and Electro DJs in the ’80s: Rock City. Then, it’s a pit-stop at the Acna Centre – where the man himself honed his radio DJ skills – before ending up at a secret gig in the infamous Bodega nightclub. Hosted earlier this month, Palladium invited more than 150 of its finest Midlander fans to a homecoming set with MistaJam himself on the decks.

Palladium was established in 1920 to make tyres for the aviation industry. As interest in this market dried up after WW2, the company put their expertise in canvas and rubber into making boots as tough as their tyres had been. The Palladium Explorer Series collaborates with creatives the world over to uncover alternative cities and cultures through innovative film and photography content.

When it came to Nottingham, there was no better fit than MistaJam, was there?

& Other Stories asked photographers Nadia Sarwar and Isabel Martínez to interpret the four fragrances in their eau de toilette range

& other stories eau de toilette

As a brand known for their creative collaborations, & Other Stories have struck a fragrant note with their latest project.

In celebration of their eau de toilette launch, photographers Nadia Sarwar and Isabel Martínez were asked to capture the four scents in a series of photos.

An essential element of the & Other Stories beauty concept is that all products are truly sensorial and personal – and you don’t get much more sensorial and personal than fragrance, do you? With this in mind, the eau de toilette range adds an olfactive dimension to the visual expressions of the brand’s fashion and beauty collections.

New York-based Brit Nadia Sarwar – full-time photographer and founder of froufrouu.com – was one of the first co-creatives to work with & Other Stories. For the eau de toilette launch, she is joined by Barcelona-based Isabel Martínez.

“& Other Stories’ eau de toilettes have a subtle scent that changes a little bit depending on the woman who wears it. They inspired me to create four feminine and enigmatic pictures which tell a story that, as the perfume itself, depends on the imagination of the viewer. I wanted to express that when wearing the fragrance, you’re wearing a piece of poetry,” says Isabel Martínez

“The scents and specific notes evoked a beautiful nostalgia which was drawn upon to reimagine familiar yet fresh moments,” says Nadia Sarwar.

Both photographers were given free range to interpret the fragrances – ‘Fig Fiction’, ‘Punk Bouquet’, ‘Botanic Whisper’ and ‘Moroccan Tea’ – in whatever way appealed to them.

You can see their interpretations for each below.

Cat Footwear x Alex Mattsson

Calling all beautiful boys and big-footed babes, you’re in for a real treat. Luxury menswear designer Alex Mattsson has collaborated with CAT footwear to produce a cutting-edge Colorado boot (styled by none other than Wonderland’s very own Matthew Josephs), and it’s stomping into Machine A this weekend.

Having supplied footwear for Alex Mattsson’s AW13 and SS14 presentations and lookbooks, an actual partnership between CAT footwear and one of the UK fashion scene’s brightest sparks made sense. And of course, Mattsson’s interpretation of the Colorado boot makes it more iconic than ever.

With as much substance as style, the Alex Mattsson x CAT footwear Colorado boot makes the most of the brand’s technical features: a stacked sole, a 3M tongue and a unique strap locking system and mix of leathers from CAT’s expansive material libraries.

“CAT has an amazing track record,” said Mattson. “In terms of creative freedom, it’s a dream situation for a designer. It’s limitless in that you can do whatever you want. It’s really exciting to work for a company that can make your ideas happen.”

If you’ve ever wondered how rugged boots became cool, you can credit CAT footwear. Built for life, the Colorado boot internalised the strength and flexibility innate in all CAT machinery into the finest footwear equipment. Since 1991, every Colorado sole has been stamped ‘Walking Machine’ – a testament to how far you’ve come and how far you’ll go.

We preview Les Benjamins SS15 collection with its offerings of PAIX to all

Les benjamins ss15

While Les Benjamins AW14 may have focussed on the streets, SS15 was exiled to the desert. But, with camouflage prints made up entirely of flowers and more detailing than ever, this is certainly no bad thing.

Somewhat ironically for a collection that employs a dominant palette of brown and combat green, ‘PAIX’ – the French for ‘peace’ – is the SS15 slogan embossed across the Ready-to-wear ‘Black-Line’ sweatshirts and t-shirts. Obviously, the collection is a long way from resembling a soldier’s uniform – if it did we’d have signed up to Uniform Dating long ago – but what it does artfully incorporate is the military tendency towards functionality.

As we’d expect, Les Benjamins SS15 maintains the brand’s reputation for using only the finest pima cotton and finishing techniques. Combining military tailoring with a contemporary aesthetic, the collection is a full ready-to-wear wardrobe made in Istanbul.

For the very first international fashion label to represent Turkey, we wouldn’t expect anything less.

& Other Stories is launching a capsule collection with Swedish designer A-S Dåvik for AW14

As Davik other stories

Launching in London only last year, & Other Stories is one of our favourite stores on the highstreet. But, for AW14, a storm of contemporary elegance is brewing in the shape of Swedish designer A-S Dåvik. In collaboration with & Other Stories, she has created a collection of everything from ready-to-wear pieces to shoes and accessories, with each piece embedding her idiosyncratic aesthetic into the store.

“My collection shows reworked classics that offer something new. The pieces are elegant and calm, and when you look closer you discover exciting details, well-executed construction and versatility. My work is never loud, but it is never boring,” promises Dåvik.

Featuring a grand silhouette with focus on the waist, the collection is a flattering one. The graphic shapes of a coat are highlighted, while wide trousers, jackets and classic shirts are made from only the highest quality of materials. Accessories enter the frame and perfect the silhouette in the form of pieces such as a flat brim bowler hat and mannish flats.

But what about inspiration? Greta Garbo is omnipresent in Dåvik’s design, but Georgia O’Keeffe’s life and work, as well as the ideas of Jean Arp, have all played a role in this collection. Classic and sophisticated, the collection’s palette is one of grey, cream and navy. And while it’s certainly perennial, the movement and detailing is what gives the collection its contemporary touch and captures Dåvik’s signature style.

Night Tales, the award-winning venture from Background Bars, is back this winter for your fix of experimental nightlife and fine food

Night Tales

Winner of ‘Best Pop-up bar 2014’, Night Tales is now in the business of making Winter nightlife the best it can be. For seven weeks, a 10,000 sq/ft space in Shoreditch will play host to the greatest gastronomy, music and bar culture that London has to offer. Teaming up with fellow award-winner The Halo Group on production, the space will feature their two-tiered structure with a raised platform mezzanine and canopy to protect revellers from the cruel winter elements – especially those of us who have an aversion to wearing a jacket on a night out.

Not that standing up and exposing yourself to the elements is the only way to enjoy Night tales. The intimate seating areas and private serviced chalets accompany warming log fires and candle light, so there’s no need to make like a penguin if you’re not that way inclined. As well as three new concept bars – yes, THREE – Night Tales’ food partners include purveyors of ‘filthy sexy meaty concotions’ Patty&Bun, West London lads Rum Kitchen, the pizza people Voodoo Ray’s and many more.

If you’re looking to feel comfortably numb, you’ll be in good hands at Night Tales. Tales of Whiskey will be found on the mezzanine, ready for you to whip up a few merry tales of your own. The Hot Hut Cocktail Bar will occupy the ground floor, serving cocktail realness in the form of espresso martinis, almond white russians and more.

The launch weekend commencing Friday 7th November will be hosted by infamous compilation series Late Night Tales. Django Django will be doing a DJ set, and legends of disco Low Life will appear with Bill Brewster, Frank Broughton and Justin Strauss as a special guest – all the way from New York.

Night Tales: it might just be the thing to make the Christmas season cool.

Wonderland presents Reiss: ‘The Poetics of Space’, a film that captures the transitioning moments of memory and the possibilities of a relationship between a man and a woman

If only all relationships could be as chic as this one. Shot in beautiful black and white, Reiss: The Poetics of Space takes aesthetic and ideological inspiration from the French New Wave film movement of the ’60s – cinematic beauty at its very best. Through a hyperlapsed collection of visuals, disjointed sounds and French dialogue, the film reflects memories of what may or may not have been for the couple. Ultimately, however, it is up to the viewer to perceive the relationship, whilst the exquisite craftsmanship and beauty of Reiss‘ AW14 mens and womenswear resides throughout.

Abbey Clancy moves from front row to film set with a role in celebrity hairdresser James Brown’s directorial debut in collaboration with Vauxhall

In this world, there are those who win Strictly Come Dancing and those who walk in Giles Deacon’s AW14 show. Rollacoaster covergirl Abbey Clancy has done both. She was also a runner-up on Britain’s Next Top Model, has been shot for Love (she cites Katie Grand as the one who helped her find her high fashion feet), is married to a footballer and has designed a range of dresses for Matalan. Yet, this isn’t all there is to her. For years, she has been somewhat of a groupie, following her brother John to gigs around the country where he sings and plays guitar in indie band The Razz.

When hairdresser James Brown began casting for The Vauxhalls – his filmic debut of a London band getting ready for a gig in collaboration with Vauxhall – she was an obvious choice: “I thought who’s young, who’s cool, who do I love and I thought of Abbey straight away.”

First seen in nothing but a pair of Marks & Spencer knickers, Abbey gets ready alongside her band and – unsurprisingly – puts as much effort into her outfit as rehearsing for their performance. Inspired by the aesthetic of the late Corinne Day, the film also employs the talents of her muse, stylist Tara St Hill. In celebration of British style, Abbey wears labels from Vivienne Westwood to Topshop. A touch of Saint Laurent is also present – she is meant to be in a band, after all.

With the chicest soundtrack (The Kills, of course) and front woman, The Vauxhalls might just make your day a little more interesting.
