What do both UGG and Alexa Chung have in common? Iconic style status. Now that the leaves are turning brown and the Autumn chill is setting in, we’re thankful that UGG has teamed up with Chung who art directed a brand new shoot. Featuring her creative and talented friends, the shoot gives us some major style inspiration and honours the iconic Classic UGG boot as well as celebrating the launch of the eagerly-anticipated Classic II.

Alexa Chung, who we know has talents that range from presenting to modelling and designing, both art directed the shoot, as well as being an ambassador for the brand. Known for her honesty and integral approach, it’s not surprising she’s created a shoot for the brand that encapsulates everything she loves – and we love – about UGG. Focusing on the famous UGG core collection that’s always been our go-to for comfy but cute boots, the shoot focuses on the iconic styles, such as the Mini boots and slippers have been a permanent fixture in our Autumn and Winter wardrobes. The shoot, completely art directed by Chung, is a series of beautiful portraits capturing Alexa’s close friends: women who are recognised for their effortless personal style and many creative talents, whose UGG boots make up an integral element of their wardrobe.

The shoot stars editor and model Anna Z Gray; designer and stylist Brianna Lance; poet, artist and inspirational speaker Cleo Wade and model Coco Baudelle, all of whom are style icons just like Chung, the campaign is a testament to both Chung’s artistic eye and UGG’s timeless Classic designs. All of the shoot stars – and Chung herself of course – found UGG boots during high school and their teenage years, with the Classic Mini, Classic Short and slipper styles still an Autumn essential for them. For the models, UGG boots are synonymous with warmth and comfort; they think of them as a classic and iconic style staple. Showing us how they styled their favourite Classic boots and slippers, the shoot proves that UGG boots go with every look, and every individual style.

Launching 7th October, Alexa Chung’s art direction and artful styling of the shoot has helped us get our Autumn looks all figured out. Chung’s style icon status is firmly based in her love of mixing heritage and vintage pieces with up-to-date and on trend items, in a similar way to what UGG have done with the launch of their new Classic II boot. It’s about taking something iconic and reworking it into something that keeps its timeless elements, but is effortlessly modern and sophisticated. With her style, and her model’s, flowing through the project, the shoot showcases new and modern ways we can update our UGG boot style this Autumn.

UGG boots are what we always turn to when the blustery winds come in and we need warmth and comfort to get us through the day. UGG boots are a classic, and when styled and art directed by Alexa Chung, their icon statuses collide to create a shoot that’s artistically shot, beautifully styled and reflects the spirit of UGG that we love. We’re totally obsessed.

Happy Birthday Alexa Chung! We’ve charted the style icon’s seven best moments to celebrate her turning 31 today.

chung

Roll out the cake, light the candles and get ready to sing: it’s Alexa Chung’s birthday! Everyone’s favourite British style icon is turning 31 this year, and in typical 7 Wonders style, we’ve taken this opportunity to tell the world why we love her. Alexa has done a bit of everything, from modelling to TV presenting, being a contributing editor to British Vogue and most recently designing her own line in collaboration with AG Jeans. Becoming known to most of us via Popworld in the mid 00’s (precious memories),  Alexa has gone onto become a style icon, and has gone international – now splitting her time between London and New York. Here’s our favourite seven Alexa moments from through the years.

THE BAG

The first bag that Mulberry named for a celebrity back in 2009, the Alexa was credited with helping the company fight off the recession. The boyish cross body style tapped into Alexa’s personal style, and allowed women across the world to emulate that little bit better – for a price.

INVENTING THE PETER PAN COLLAR

She may have not actually crafted the first peter pan collar with her own two hands, but is synonymous with this popular look from a few years back. A cute look while it lasted, before the high street moved in and ruined it.

THE FAMOUS EX BOYFRIEND

She dated Arctic Monkeys lead singer Alex Turner for three years until 2013, and made having a rock star boyfriend cool again, as well as making a lot of teenage girls jealous.

EVERYONE’S FAVOURITE TV PRESENTER

She started out on Popworld, Channel Four’s quirky Saturday morning music show, and has gone on to host her own programme on MTV in the US. Before that, she was present on many, many other Channel 4 offerings, including a memorable segment on a Gok Wan programme in which she interviewed Roberto Cavalli, Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld. Match made in heaven.

BEING AN AWARD WINNING STYLE ICON

Alexa won the British Style Award, as voted for by the public, in 2010, 2011 and 2012– cementing her style icon status in the fashion hall of fame three times over.

THE BOOK

Last year Alexa released her book ‘It’; the titled cleverly alluding to her status as the world’s ‘it girl’. A collection of thoughts, musings, images and generally cool stuff, It was a sure fire crowd pleaser of a gift last Christmas. It’s hard to put down on paper exactly what an ‘it girl’ or style icon is, but surely this is It.

HER NEW COLLECTION

She unveiled a new collaboration with AG Jeans to the press last week, which includes 21 key pieces each named for a friend, with the Pixie dress and the Tennessee overalls being staples. Although not available to purchase until early 2015, this seems better than the average celebrity collab.

Halloween weekend is almost here! Wonderland take a look through the best and some of the worst Halloween costumes that the fashion industry has come up with. We run down some spooky tips from the fashion pack, from Alexa Chung as Garth from Wayne’s World to Heidi Klum as, well, everything. What are you going as?

Marc Jacobs as a camel toe

1. Don’t take yourself too seriously (Marc Jacobs as a camel toe)

While technically not a Halloween costume (he donned the outfit for his Christmas bash in 2007), Jacobs deserves praise for being the fashion equivalent of that guy in the zentai suit. People love the full-on commitment, the complete disavowal of potential sex appeal and the willingness to poke fun at yourself. You’re a guy in a furry suit and you’re making people laugh. Big up yourself, Marc Jacobs.

Roberto Cavalli in Karl Lagerfeld costume for Halloween

2. Subtly undermine others (Roberto Cavalli as Karl Lagerfeld)

Lovable pastiche or underhanded diss? Nobody knows. Therein lies the genius of dressing up as your friends and/or rivals. Either way, Cavalli looks amazing as Karl at his Halloween ball in New York. (He might get himself into trouble with New York’s most famous editor, but he’s happy to hold a party there, it seems/2012/04/top-five-fashion-feuds/.) You can easily assemble your own Karl costume: white wig, black suit, studded gloves and stony Teutonic expression – and don’t forget Choupette.

Lydia Hearst Shaw as Page Six columnist for Halloween (Image: Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images North America)

3. Don’t just go for full-on sexy (Lydia Hearst Shaw as a journalist)

What is this, a sexy convict? Oh right, it’s Lydia Hearst Shaw dressed as a newspaper columnist. Remember this scene from Mean Girls? Yes, Halloween might be the one night of the year most girls can dress like complete sluts with full impunity, but that doesn’t mean you have to sink to Amanda Seyfried levels. Don’t be a cliche. And if you want to dress like a journalist, take a hint from Wonderland – it involves cups of tea and a Blackberry, not eyelash extensions and a jaunty fedora.

Agyness Deyn and Alexa Chung in Wayne's World costumes for Halloween

4. Hook up with a costume buddy (Alexa Chung and Agyness Deyn as Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World)

When you’re stuck for a costume, just pair up with a good mate and the good ideas will start rolling: Wayne and Garth? Bonnie and Clyde? Thelma and Louise? Obama and Mitt? Extra points if you dress as the opposite gender – hey, it’s Halloween, why the hell not.

Pixie Geldof in Halloween costume

6. Generic Tim Burton character is your best friend (Pixie Geldof as… someone)

If you’re stuck for ideas, just think back through the entire Tim Burton back catalogue and choose your poison. All you need is hair that sticks up, dark eye make-up and pale skin. Men should go for their best Johnny Depp impersonation, and women should channel Helena Bonham Carter (as these are the only two people who ever appear in Tim Burton’s movies ever).

Heidi Klum in Shiva Halloween costume (Image: Dara Kushner/INFphoto.com)

5. There will always be someone better than you (Heidi Klum as Shiva)

No matter how many hours you spend slaving over your costume, there will inevitably be a Heidi Klum, i.e. someone who will upstage everyone else. They will have somehow hit upon the magical combination of tongue-in-cheek good humour, natural sex appeal and all-out wackiness. This doesn’t mean you should give up and turn up wearing a black T-shirt and claim you’re Robert Smith. Just accept your place in the natural hierarchy of Halloween parties.

Alber Elbaz as a cat for Halloween (Photo Joe Schildhorn: BFAnyc.com)

7. When all else fails, dress as a cat (Alber Elbaz as er, a cat)

Ah, the humble feline: companions to the night and the ultimate Halloween costume standby – whack on a pair of ears and you’re done. You could draw on some whiskers and cat eyes, but if you’re going to spend your entire night chugging mystery Halloween punch so you know you’ll end up smearing it face anyway. If in doubt, accessorise with Janet Jackson.
