A the bottom of the garden

Gowns that wouldn’t look out of place at the Queen’s garden party traversed the catwalk for Topshop Unique SS16. Fragile peach lace adorned with gems swung out behind models uncovering legs for days. Microscopic florals played throughout along with bell sleeved chiffon numbers your mum would think you looked gorgeous in. It wasn’t a particularly daring collection, but it as beautiful, ladylike and had enough power-suiting thrown in

You’re fit but you… don’t know it

The style was sexy without being obviously so. Curtain patterned florals covered top halves but daring slits were mandatory. Materials were translucent, knits were thrown off the shoulder and leather and leopard print were splashed throughout the entire collection. Topshop Unique looks were for girls who are trying to look like women. Stylish and subtle, although we could argue otherwise regarding the fur. Summer fluff? Not our usual go to but there’s not doubt we’ll be wearing fur now come April along with coordinating sandals too match.

Work it

Workwear (that you could never possibly actually wear to work) came in the form of silk shirts unbuttoned to the navel, oversized and tucked into tailored trousers. Blazers were thrown in, to be worn unfastened but tied around the waist with glittered belts for a touch of playfulness amongst all the navy. Grown-up shapes were blended with loud polka prints to stop Topshop’s collection from slipping into the stale.

Now a mainstay on the fashion calendar, Topshop Unique present two catwalk collections and two pre-collections a year. Their Resort 16 collection journeys through the decadence of Soho’s nocturnal world – think a Pepto-Bismal pink crushed velvet two piece suit and dress, a draped silver lamé power blouse, a long-line leopard print shearling coat inspired by Margot Tennenbaum’s style, a thigh-grazing beatnik Breton knit dress, a series of heavily embellished leathers and a supple leather polo neck mini dress.

Nodding to the 80s – with the refinement of the present – the collection references great British style and heritage, building on from the classic Brit girl we saw on the runway at AW15.

Sport-meets-chic

For Topshop Unique SS15 traditional sportswear was re-imagined with an ultra-feminine aesthetic, with a splash of traditional British seaside heritage thrown in. The tom-boy was dressed in frilly knickers and girly-girls adopted bold cycling jerseys teamed with contrasting accordion pleats, ruffles or delicate layers.

Pleasure beach

Quintessentially British, but with a lively twist, Topshop Unique SS15 was made for the city girl heading on a mini-break wanting to take the faded glamour of the British seaside to the med. From bowling totes, tambourine bags and Brighton rock bangles to reinvented houndstooth, bold primary colours, spaghetti strap dresses, silver foil pleats, cobalt and lemon prints and chic navy stripes – the collection served up a day to night wardrobe we can’t wait to get our hands on. Stand out pieces came in the shape of a sherbet lemon off the shoulder frill hemmed two piece and the Swarovski crystal embellished nude dress worn by a fierce looking Cara Delevingne.

Tainted Love

Of course it wouldn’t be a Topshop Unique show without a killer soundtrack, from a remix of Joe Goddard’s ‘Time’ to Marylin’s classic ‘Tainted Love’ – SS15 served a celebration of British youth culture at its best.
