Film by Sadie & Joe Williams

If David Bowie had a love child with Mary Queen of Scotts – the girl born (in some hypothetical era) would be wearing nothing but Sadie Williams. Renowned for the rigid twinkling metallic structured gowns in her grad collection, coined ‘Disco Daleks’ by Alexander Fury, Sadie Williams is back in the spotlight and this time it’s for her collaboration with famed high-street innovator & Other Stories. Having already worked with J.W.Anderson and Katie Hillier since graduating last year, London based new-gen designer Sadie Williams is one to watch and her glitter-fuelled capsule collection for & Other Stories is testament to this. Dropping in stores this Thursday November 13th, prices start at £45. We catch up with Sadie herself to find out more…

How did your collaboration with & Other Stories come about?

Sadie: Kim Sion (a really cool lady) who consults for the brand had seen my MA Graduate collection and organised a meeting with the & Other Stories team in London. I showed them my portfolio of textile samples and fashion design, and it all happened from there really.

What are the re-occurring references behind your work?

S: I don’t have specific reoccurring references, but I am always interested in funny juxtapositions and odd combinations of influences. I combine my love of texture, pattern & colour with simple, clean shapes. Ultimately I aim to create beautiful modern and exciting work that encapsulates a tomboyish, youthful sensibility.

This is a continuation of your grad collection, do you think you will stray from this trademark aesthetic?

S: This collection actually came from my development work towards my grad collection, more than the final collection itself. I wanted to explore the spirit and aesthetic of the unrealised designs in this body of work. I won’t be keeping to the same ‘trademark’ aesthetic. I’m not entirely sure what my future work will look like, but I will always be creating textile driven fashion and working intuitively, whilst playfully referencing the things that excite me.

What would you personally wear from the collection?

S: I’m not just saying this, but all of it! I genuinely can’t wait to start wearing it!

Neither can we!

Sadie Williams has created a whole new wardrobe for Barbie and even created a video to accompany.

SW6

London based designer Sadie Williams first caught Barbie’s eye at the last Central Saint Martin’s MA show and has since gone on to dress five dolls in her miniature designs, each are special edition one-off priced at £120 and available exclusively from Selfridges Toy Shop from 14th February the first day of London Fashion Week.
About the collaboration Williams says: “I wanted to create a Barbie gang of ultra princessy tomboys.  I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy, and at the same time I love dressing up.  I wanted my Barbies to encapsulate these playful elements by creating special shimmering gowns, each a one-off featuring my hand worked textiles.”

Barbie’s already well acquainted with a host of London based designers, having been previously been dressed by Fred Butler, Louise Gray, Nasir Mazhar and Sibling. She’s had her hair done by Bleach in Dalston, worn couture from milliner Stephen Jones and had her dreamhouse re-imagined by Roksanda Illincic.
If you fancy a bit of Sadie Williams for your wardrobe, a capsule of embossed mini-dresses and lurex-print sweatshirts for adults are also on sale at Selfridges London.
