BFC NAMES NEWGEN 17/18

Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY joins Molly Goddard and more.

“To be able to select NEWGEN for both womenswear and menswear side by side this year has given the scheme a panoramic overview of London’s strength as a centre-point of young innovation,” explained BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent, Chair of the NEWGEN committee – and dedicated talent championing Instagrammer – Sarah Mower, as the latest group of contemporary designers to make a shout about was announced, today.

Amongst those adding the NEWGEN precursor to future social media bios is Samuel Ross’s A-COLD-WALL*, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY, Halpern, Nicholas Daley and Richard Malone, while returning NEWGEN designers include COTTWEILER, Kiko Kostadinov, Liam Hodges, Phoebe English MAN, Marta Jakubowski, Molly Goddard, Paula Knorr, Sadie Williams and Wales Bonner; picked as this year’s One to Watch, Richard Quinn concludes the 15 part line up.

“We have all been energised to see a surge of diverse talents from so many backgrounds whose focused individuality inspires us,” adds Mower, “It’s a privilege to be able to join with so many mentors from the UK industry who volunteer to join together to put these designers on the proven fast-track to recognition and business success.” Launched by the British Fashion Council in 1993, the initiative has long championed British based talent, from J.W. Anderson to recent graduates of the scheme like Craig Green and Ashley Williams.

Quinn, who only last year graduated from the MA at Central Saint Martins, will be given exhibition space, while the rest will show catwalk and presentations at June’s London Fashion Week Men’s and September’s London Fashion Week respectively; all will enjoy mentoring from the committee’s industry led panel.
