In keeping with their PR makeover, Grindr are upping their fashion status by showing J.W. Anderson’s AW16 show live this weekend at London Collections: Men. It’s unlikely that the pairing between the gay hook-up app and the fashion week favourite will have much influence on the designer, but rather the reverse as Grindr are trying to clean up their brand. (A shame in a way, we think, to shake off their unapologetically promiscuous reputation.)

Reported by The New York Times, Anderson said he wanted to show the sexy side of fashion through the collaboration. We’re having all sorts of thoughts on what the collection could look like following this announcement.

Landis Smithers, head of collaboration and marketing at Grindr said that fashion “a very big topic of interest for a certain segment of our consumer,” while Anderson himself called the collab a “no-brainer”. Better sign up now.

On|Off have been discovering and developing new talent for 12 years now, giving young fashion designers who didn’t have the funds to go it alone, the chance to shine. On|Off used brand sponsorship to stage their own fashion shows during both seasons of London Fashion Week either ‘on’ or ‘off’ schedule (get it?). On|Off have since expanded their scope to reach out to young people with talent in many areas: fashion, design, art, technology and music.

On|Off have launched mega-stars such as Gareth Pugh and J.W. Anderson, and hosted shows for on-schedule designers such as Roksanda Illincic, Jasper Conran and Felder Felder.

The organisation has also been recognised as a ‘technological leader’ at London Fashion Week, and achieved many ‘technological firsts’: the first art installation made from iPods and a virtual fashion week in the virtual world, Second Life.

“With the return of On|Off we will bring a truly creative and avant-garde expression that is being missed with the ever-increasing constraint of commercial adaptation posed on the fashion week designer’s collections.”

– Lee Lapthorne, Founder of On|Off

During LFW SS16, from the 18th until the 21st of September 2015, On|Off will be taking over the Vinyl Factory, a purpose built space for catwalk and presentation with an incredible light and sound system, and just a three minute walk from the new London Fashion Week main site!

So if the shows have inspired you, or you’re a budding designer wishing to get in to the shows…head over to Marshall Street in Soho and try your chances.

J.W. Anderson is the master of desirable colour-ways  and clever cuts. For his Resort 16 collection, Anderson mixes the perfect blend of bold dominating stripes and sharp tailored cuts with polka dot prints and floaty fabrics. Anderson’s famed skill at placing masculine and feminine motifs together under one umbrella, in a way that is relevant to the modern wearer, is as present as ever in Resort 16, with floral frills meeting against sharp cuts of dyed leather and dark denim.

Killer knee high leather boots with spiral ruffles – some in metallic silver and bronze, others in charcoal black and beige – offer a solid base to the designs that are dappled with blues, reds, white, black and greys, along with Anderson’s well known stripes in a rainbow of colours. To balance it all, primary coloured rib knits are offered to neutralise the collection, as well as carefully placed elegant accessories of asymmetrical disk earrings and bags in white, black and electric blue.
