Celebrating Maria Sharapova’s return to play in Paris, NikeLab collaborate with the city’s boutique, colette for a capsule collection.

It’s clear you’re a bonafide icon when you get custom shoes made by one of the biggest brands in the world with your own logo on the back, plus a nod to your five major tennis wins hidden on the insole. Maria Sharapova’s got just that from sportswear giant NikeLab. The sockliner even has her own words printed on as a reminder, “I am not the next anyone, I am the first Maria Sharapova.”

The collection includes the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 and the NikeCourt Tennis Classic in colette’s signature blue. Fancy yourself a respectable amateur? Sharapova wore the Zoom Vapor 9s for her victory last year. Both made from leather and of course using the latest textile technology, you can match your favourite players, even if it’s only for a game on the back lawn, and hope the designs fit for a champion might at least give you a helping hand.

Pop surrealist Gary Baseman and Coach SS15 collaboration comes complete with a shrine and exhibition of the artist’s work at Paris store, colette.

Gary Baseman Coach

Californian artist and animator Gary Baseman is collaborating with Coach for SS15. A selection of exclusive handbags designed by Baseman for the brand will launch at colette on 19th January and a store-wide exhibition of previously unseen work entitled ‘Secret Society’ which opens this week, all supported by a bespoke window featuring a shrine to Baseman’s character Le Fauve Buster. Working under the pop surrealist movement, Baseman has said his goal is to “blur the lines between fine art and commercial art”.

The collaboration between Baseman and the brand features 10 characters, designed to bring to life the idea of the ‘Coach Girl’. Their stories are told through secrets from their lives spent inside a Coach bag with each and every one becoming a unique and wearable piece of art. The characters have been created specifically for this collaboration and are also shown throughout the store on print dresses, 3D textured sweaters, leather jackets, tees, limited edition bags, charms and jewellery.

Gary Baseman comments, “The Spring Collection with Stuart has been a labor of love. I see this collaboration to be a true extension of my art. It is a rich fodder for ideas, and I want to take this vision of the collaboration and extend it to my painting, drawing, photography, art installation and possibly art performance and film.”

Baseman will attend an event in celebration of the collaboration at colette on 22nd January which the public will also be able to visit between 6pm and 7pm.

The British Council’s Architecture, Design and Fashion team in junction with Unity and PAN Studio are launching This Way Up. Curated by Pete Collard, it will act as an exhibition and sale, the show tells the story of 15 years of British Council commissions, exhibitions and special projects.

As a silent auction will also run throughout the week, giving viewers the option of bidding on the exhibition pieces. Included in the exhibition are a variety of high profile projects such as the Venice Biennale, and pieces from designers including Tom Dixon, Peter Kennard, Pearson Lloyd, Sebastian Bergne, Nigel Shafran, Michael Marriott and Anthony Burrill. Everything has to go and all of the funds raised by the sale will go towards a new British Council fellowship, which will provide young UK based designers the chance to work in Brazil.

Wonderland have gone through the catalogue and chosen our top 5 items for bidding.

Basso & Brooke Dresses:
These dresses are one-offs which were created whilst on a British Council trip to Uzbekistan to work with the weavers there.

Small rocking chairs by Andrew Stafford and a selection of model frames and images by Nigel Shafran:
These chairs were created to accompany a reading exhibition which ran in Venice and featured precious, cool print material. The framed Nigel Shafran image in the corner is one of many from the British photographer on sale at This Way Up.

Anthony Burrill Posters:
Known for his up-beat illustrations, designs and prints he has been commissioned by Colette in Paris and The Design Museum in London.

Arcylic cuff with gold-plated chain bracelet by Scott Wilson:
With collaborations with designers like Hussein Chalayan and Givenchy Couture, Scott Wilson’s pieces are made to be collected and loved.
