“Today, I played her some new stuff and… it’s not crying, it’s sobbing when I put it on, so I’m still hesitant when it comes to playing her my music.” It turns out “her” is none other than 90s sass-rap queen and pop producer Neneh Cherry. Imagine reducing “her” to tears…

With a childhood spent surrounded by the 90s icons we now fetishise in the name of throwback, McVey was raised on an intravenous music diet. But it wasn’t until she hit 16, while studying music production in Stockholm, that she was ready to share her sound. “I just kept it to myself,” says McVey with a coy smile. “I was sort of waiting for it to go away, the urge. I didn’t think it was going to be serious.”

Refreshingly self-deprecating despite her enviable genes (her dad is Cameron McVey, famed for his production work with the likes of Portishead and All Saints), McVey says she’s reluctant to be labelled a rock star baby. “I’m really proud of the things my parents have done, but I didn’t really want them to become a part of my thing,” she explains. “Saying that Destiny’s Child and Lauryn Hill are my biggest inspirations in a really cool music school in Stockholm – where everybody just listens to indie – is the biggest taboo ever!” she laughs.

Backstreet Boys

Backstreet might have come back, but it wasn’t ok when they left the first time around, alright. In 2006, after THIRTEEN years together, Kevin Richardson left the band, stating, “it was a very tough decision for me but one that was necessary in order to move on with the next chapter of my life.” We’re sure it was a very sad time for Richardson, but he reportedly had 40 million bucks to wipe away his tears with. He came back in 2011, we can’t keep up anymore, it isn’t fair on the fans, this roller-coaster of emotion.

N Sync

rs_1024x759-130820130503-1024.Nsync1.ms.082013

If you ignore Justin Timberlake’s hair, N Sync were everything. Maybe the hair too, it’s the subject of many a debate. We said bye, bye, bye to the boys in 2002 when they went on a temporary hiatus that turned out to be permanent. Still pining for some N Sync pop? You can go see all five of them at Madame Tussauds NYC, prepare yourself for nightmares on wax.

Steps

115b2dc6-b779-4890-874c-1abf892c1d07

So. Much. Leather. Too much for 2015, probably not enough for 2001 when the band went their separate ways. Ian ‘H’ Watkins (the H stood for Hyperactive, apparently) and Claire Richards left the fivesome for their own £5 million deal as a duo with Warner. They should’ve had remembered that there’s no I in Steps as they only released one album out of a planned five and the band came back as a group in 2011. That must have been an awkward conversation.

S Club 7

Photo of S CLUB 7

Even though the Juniors tried to continue their elders’ legacy all the way up until 2005, S Club 7 was just never the same after Paul Cattermole left in 2002. These were the days of lipgloss and ice blue eyeshadow, baggy jeans and trouser chains and S Club 7 epitomised the era. They had their own film and TV show, both with bizarre plotlines, the film involved clones, at least it was unpredictable. They jumped on the reunion bandwagon last year and you can join the S Club party on their Bring It All Back tour this year.

Westlife

west1

Westlife were more of a band for your mum, they were seriously uncool, always sat on high stools and the infamous masters of the boyband hand actions. There was still always one person at school with a Westlife pencil case though. Loving Westlife was stressful, what with Brian McFadden leaving in 2004, their hiatus in 2008 and finally, finally their split in 2012, a Westlife fan never really knew if they were coming or going. Their 2001 single “Uptown Girl” a cover of Billy Joel, was probably their best, and worst, offering. There’s still some incredible Westlife fansites lurking on the internet where you can learn everything you could ever possibly dream of about the boys.

Spice Girls

spicegirls

We’ve been trying to spice up our lives since 1994 when the Spice Girls formed. Vicky B was obviously our favourite, we love a good pout, but as girl power icons, we love them all. They made enough fashion mistakes to fill a book but in their own kitsch way, they’ve become not only acceptable, but influential over the years. From Baby’s platform trainers to Ginger’s union jack dress, you spot a little bit of the Spice Girls every now and again despite their first split being in 2000. We’re pleased to report that apparently they’re making a comeback, get ready to shimmy to the left and shake it to the right, all over again.

All Saints

All-Saints-Girl-Band-Quiz-My-Flash-Trash

Probably the coolest on this list, All Saints were pure commercial 90s RnB. Best remembered by us at Wonderland for their incredible skill at co-ordinated clothing, they pioneered the tank top and white jean combination  the one that we’d all rather forget about. During their first 8 year attempt at stardom, they had five UK number ones but sadly split in 2005. Unsurprisingly, despite saying they’d never reform again, All Saints supported Backstreet Boys on their 2013 reunion tour.

How were you scouted?

I was scouted by Jakub at Latitude festival last summer. I signed with Elite London and Jakub the photographer of this shoot is my mother agent. He looks out for me like a big brother!

You’ve walked at LFW, where might people have seen you before?

So far I’ve also done shoots for All Saints, Hunger Magazine and Urban Outfitters.

What’s been your highlight as a model so far?

Working with passionate and interesting people is definitely the biggest highlight. Also, I have been able to travel and experience different cultures first hand, something I find fascinating.

Do you have a dream designer/photographer/brand you’d love to work with?

I love the work of Peter Lindbergh, he captures so much emotion beautifully in his work.

Did you want to be a model growing up?

I never even considered it until I was scouted! I was planning on studying anthropology at university once I finished sixth form.

Have you just finished your exams? Congrats if so! What have you done this summer?

Yes thank you. I loved sixth form but I’m so happy to have finished, I get my results very soon! So far I’ve gone on holiday with my family and then with friends. And I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Los Angeles, Miami and Buenos Aires for modelling!

You seem to have been travelling loads, where’s your favourite place in the world?

Despite travelling to so many places lately, my favourite place in the world is still London, I feel so at home there, it’s where I was born and live today.

Have you ever had any model mishaps?

I tripped on a wire at a casting once, funnily enough I didn’t get to walk for that designer!

Who’s your ultimate model pin-up?

It has to be a Karlie Kloss, I’m a huge fan of her philanthropic work, I hope to do the same in the future.

You can now complete your biker and denim look with the arrival of AllSaints’ first full women’s handbag line. Capital Collection is made up of 48 pieces drawing on AllSaints’ expansive 21-years of experience. Expect all the usual high quality from the brand’s new direction as we’ve been promised premium materials, lust-worthy colours and multiple models including the tote, satchel, hobo, clutch, cross-body, bowling, mini and shoulder bag.

Heading down the refined route rather than statement pieces, from what we’ve seen already, you’ll be able to invest in a piece with smart sharp details – think concealed studs and hidden zips amongst functional features. Which will you choose? You might be in store mulling it over for a while but AllSaints have kindly put the vast collection into four categories to help you pick your style, each named after the East London streets surrounding their creative studio.

AllSaints take us on a trip to the Cali coastline for their latest film, Def In Venice.

As cult clothing connoisseurs AllSaints re-locate their NYC office from the big apple to the sun drenched shores of LA, what better way to toast summer 2015 than with a fashion film set in their new stomping ground.

Taking their iconic biker jacket as the starting point, the film follows the lives of 10 endearing individuals in and around the infamous Californian neighbourhood, Venice Beach. From musicians, actors and artists, to models, skaters and surfers, the film shows us how the new-gen of relent wear their biker. Wether it’s thrown over a crisp white tee for a stroll down the boardwalk or paired with a pair of ripped jeans for an afternoon spent skating, each of the LA archetypes ooze attitude, therefore embodying the independent spirit and attitude of the brand. Soundtracked by Ariel Pink’s mesmerizing cover version of Joe and Donnie Emerson’s lost 70s classic “Baby”, the film is shown in black and white in true AllSaints style.

Conjuring memories of Cali z-boys nostalgia, Lords of Dogtown-esque skate clubs,  endless summers, seaside love affairs and the  insouciance of youth, Def in Venice is a candid snapshot into this new generation.

What have you been up to, are you in London a lot at the moment?

I’m here for two weeks with my family – my wife and kid who is two years old – and after we’re going to Paris to stay there for a month and a half. Then after that New York, where our house is.

Busy!

Yeah, a little bit. It’s nice going on a European trip!

Is there anything you are looking forward to this season?

I’m looking forward to work! I’m going back to do fashion week because I haven’t been doing that for a very long time, so I’ll try this season in Paris and Milan and see what happens. Excited for that.

Have you got any plans for the summer?

After the whole European work trip, I’m probably going to go back to New York and maybe do a road trip around the US, go to LA and chill. Do some off-roading, camping and family cool stuff.

What is your favourite thing in your wardrobe right now?

That’s a good question, I just got a leather jacket from All Saints, I’m looking forward to beating it up a bit. But it’s summer time so I’m not going to use it a lot. I bought that yesterday and I was surprised because it’s supposed to be summer here, no?! But London weather is not really helpful! At least it helped me to buy a new jacket. But not for now, maybe next winter. I’m looking forward to wearing only shorts and no shirts on the beach.

What are you listening to at the moment? You were just whistling ‘Under Pressure’ I noticed.

Yeah, sometimes I get under pressure! I’m listening to J. Cole, his album is nice. I’m listening to “Trap Queen”, I like it, just to get a little pumped up! And then some old rock ‘n’ roll.

Both nostalgic and romantic in equal measure, AllSaints release the video for their Autumn 2015 Collection.

East London clothing institution AllSaints turn 21 this year, and to celebrate their coming of age they are exploring their heritage. With a new video release that features the AW15 collection, inundated with classic AllSaints pieces, the film is unpretentiously moody. Split screen black and white scenes flutter across interspersed with light leaks and film burns – their East London roots are explored.

The collection is self is nothing less than what we’ve come to expect from AllSaints  an eclectic mix of super soft shearling jackets, longline silhouettes, sharp tailoring and some covetable over the knee boots.

Strutting through derelict buildings, the male and female duo exude the luxury of AllSaints. With looks that scream “I’m with the band” who can resist the pull of AllSaints AW15 collection, you’ll be hypnotised within a minute of watching.

Charlotte Baker AllSaints

Established in 1994, AllSaints turn 21 this year and they are celebrating with an Instagram project that releases a weekly portrait. The crème de la crème of the next generations’ fashion world; the models, the bloggers and the creatives have been hand picked by AllSaints to feature in their #HappyMonday series. All shot by Matteo Montanari, the portraits have an air of effortless cool – no retouching, no posing, no makeup or props, just style. The project features familiar faces like blogger Charlie Barker and models Neelam Gill and Lottie Hayes. AllSaints gave the sitters a chance to style out the brand’s iconic biker jacket with their own identities, bringing new life to the timeless look.

Individuality and attitude are at the heart of everything AllSaints do, and these new tastemakers of tomorrow aren’t short of either trait. Known for their muted palette, with that weathered and disheveled aesthetic – AllSaints serve quintessential rock ‘n’ roll chic. The campaign is sure to make everyone’s Monday’s brighter. #HappyMonday.
