Long renowned as one of the best and brightest UK bass producers, Bournemouth-born beatmaker Flava D needs no introduction to fans of dance music. Back now with a bold new body of work, Here & Now, out now via Hospital Records, Flava takes a turn into DnB characteristics with a barnstorming collection of cuts that has vibrance and anthemic tendencies alike.

Rounding up the music that inspired the impressive new project, Flava stops by for an On Repeat.

Listen to the album…

Flava D is On Repeat…

Hamdi – “Counting (Simula Remix)”

This song singlehandedly inspired me to dig back into my old UKG bass presets and try them on a D&B vibe.

Pola & Bryson – “Temple Stomp”

Pola & Bryson have such a perfect balance of soul & energy with really great sound design.

Technimatic & A Little Sound – “Confide”

Such a timeless tune that has soundtracked many moments for me. They execute simplicity & elegance so well.

S.P.Y – “Shelter”

Pretty much most of S.P.Y’s catalogue influences my sound but this one in particular always makes me go harder with my drum sound design. This also influenced some of my track, “Blackwall Tunnel”.

Break ft. Total Science – “Dog’s Dinner”

Break is a champion with his bass designs. For years I’ve been studying how to emulate some of those moody detuned womps & you can hear some of it in “This Is A Roller M8”.

Kings Of The Rollers – “Original Bad Boy”

I’m a sucker for anything with a stripped back Reese bass. This makes a really fun double drop with ‘Reesey Thing.’

Makoto & DJ Marky – “Found Magic”

This song gives me life. It has such a fun, loving energy to it & instantly puts a smile on my face.

Disrupta & Kathika: “The Night”

The chords in this really resonate with me. I love how the tune is really gully without overdoing anything.

Whiney & Inja – “Flashlight”

A tune I heavily rinsed when it first came out. Nailing that perfect combo of roller & vocals.

Nu:Tone ft. DJ Rae – “Shelter”

This tune was heavy on rotation for me during lockdown. The emotional chords, the message, the skippy drums.
