Nick Hakim, Lomelda., Jason Molina: multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Hand Habits shares the tracks they had On Repeat whilst making their new album, Blue Reminder.
Hand Habits – the musical project of Meg Duffy – has just unveiled their wonderful new record. Blue Reminder comes via Fat Possum Records, and is an indie-tinged opus that brims with gently anthemic hooks, progressive pop compositions and touching songwriting. Across the album’s 12 tracks, Duffy sings of romantic and self-love through growth-heavy, deeply thoughtful vignettes.
Alongside a collaborative entourage that includes Olivia Kaplan, Blake Mills and Joshua Johnson, Duffy has created an esoteric and deeply engaging piece of work. Below, they tell Wonderland about the tracks that inspired it in our latest On Repeat.

Hand Habits Is On Repeat…
The Blue Nile – “A Walk Across the Rooftops”
The production on this song feels so fresh and unexpected to me. It was a real fidelity/instrumentation north start for Blue Reminder.
Nick Hakim – “Happen”
I am a sucker for lo-fi twinkly piano against hi-fi stereo guitars kinda singing with one another. It’s a bpm range I’m also quite at home in.
Jana Horn – “A Good Thing”
I’ve toured with Jana, and watching her perform casts such a spell of simplicity merged with control. I’m really activated by such a sparse and confident mood.
A.A. Bondy – “A Slow Parade”
Again, simplicity. The amount of space in this performance breaks my heart.
Bonnie Raitt – “I Can’t Make You Love Me”
Unbelievable song, fretless guitar, wind chimes.
Darick Campbell – “End of My Journey”
From “Sacred Steel”, this is talking to God. I want to do that, too.
Flock of Dimes – “Again For the First Time”
Lucky to call Jenn a friend, grateful to call Jenn a hero. I love how Jenn leaves questions unanswered with melody.
Jason Molina – “Lioness”
Just wish I could write a song this good, this patient.
Mark Hollis – “The Colour of Spring”
How bold to start a song from silence. “One song amongst us all.”
Lomelda.- “Hannah Sun”
Enough space for everyone here. Reliable, nostalgic, truthful, poetic.
