Born in Quanzhou, Caslean has been rising in the indie-pop scene since 2015. After gaining a loyal following in China, she relocated to London for university and has been making a splash in the UK ever since. Offering her own sound of bubblegum synths, she is quickly becoming one to watch. In addition, she is focused on merging music with visual art, and works across every aspect of her work.

Caslean’s new EP, After Candy Melts, is out now. A three-song project, it crosses between indie-rock, synth-pop, and ‘90s Shibuya-kei for an emotional yet fun depiction of naivety. The coming of age story explores the highs and lows of maturing in modern life, from the upbeat, fast-paced and experimental synths of “Sweet Adventure” to the melancholic final track, “Last Landscape”.

The title track lands in the middle and sparks a medley of emotions. As the track progresses, it builds in tempo before the beat abruptly stops. As it comes back into our ears, it is soft and slow through the end. From start to finish, After Candy Melts reads as a cohesive story, with a one-of-a-kind soundscape. Accompanied by dynamic cover art, Caslean truly creates a world that is all her own.
