New kid on the scene, Kai Green, is better known as Yung Kayo. Emerging as one of Washington D.C.’s sparkling new rap talents, fans across the globe are enthralled by his up-tempo, futuristic rap style – seamlessly blending together his fluid flows and enchanting energy. Although music is Kayo’s strong suit, the young artist is a man of many talents. Dreaming up the cover art for his previous EP “Sweet16” himself, in addition to his steezy fashion sense, Kayo’s creative energy contains multitudes. “Nineteen”, much like the milestone it is, marks a turning point in the artist’s sound. Whether you’re wanting a mosh pit or a melody – Kayo’s got you covered.

Throughout the EP’s seven tracks, Kayo glides through smooth melodies and hard-hitting beats. Starting off in a blaze with “Vector”, Kayo begins to craft the story of a teenager navigating the dizzying desire for creativity, and a means of escape. “Nineteen” sees Kayo meld together his signature rapping roar with glitchy hyperpop beats. While these embellishments verge on overpowering, the young artist’s lyrical prowess is able to hold the tracks down. Kayo also joins forces with his late friend Lil Keed on the EP with the track “I Wouldn’t”, which particularly shines. Tying the project up in a neat package is “Chosen”, offering a hard-hitting soundscape of introspection and self-reflection.

About the EP Yung Kayo reflects, “This music could make you want to rage, dance, cry, fantasize, whatever. I always take my time on my projects, I go through a lot of selections and edits and these are the ones I chose for them.”

The young talent’s meticulous artistic process emanates from the EP, and at the tender age of 19 – he’s surely blown us away. With so many years ahead of him, we can’t even begin to imagine where Kayo is headed. That said, this new release is sure to solidify his place in the game.
