PREMIERE: VEGGI – “PRODUCE”

Hailing from sunny California, the TikTok star makes another foray into the music scene with sparkling new EP.

If you have a particularly ‘fried’ FYP on TikTok, then you’ve probably come across @veggibeats at some point while scrolling the app; veggi’s “Mashups That Should Be Illegal” have taken the app by storm. The young producer blends together an eclectic, mis-matched mix of songs – such as “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy and “Superbass” by Nicki Minaj. His knack for making the unthinkable sound somewhat good proves his talent as a producer, but this new EP is an exploration of his own sound within his oeuvre.

In this day and age, followers are a form of currency – yet TikTok is a particularly singular medium. While someone may experience raging success on the app, that might not necessarily translate to real-life results. What sets veggi apart, however, is that he actually has been able to translate his audience of 1.3 million followers into a fanbase. Amassing over 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with millions of streams on his most played songs, it’s clear that veggi has the foundations laid for a long-lasting music career.

This new EP sparkles, partly due to its roster of collaborators – exemplifying the power of unity. The likes of KALLITECHNIS, Bipolar Sunshine, Rome Castille, and Pell have all contributed to the project, and what results is a feat of genre-bending excellence. Some tracks, like GROOVE feature atmospheric, crescendoing synths which are underlined by an unbelievably groovy bassline. Others, such as TASTE are imbued with more of a toe-tapping Hip-Hop/R&B feel. All in all, the Californian artist did not disappoint. Whether it’s a ‘cursed’ mashup, or a new single – we’re looking forward to seeing what else he puts out.
