“I don’t know what heaven looks like, but it sure as hell ain’t here,” begins Ayla D’Lyla in her reassuring yet pensive new single, “Anywhere But Here”. Speaking of her disappointment in reality under a sparkling symphony, Ayla wallows in our mutual misfortunes — lending a voice to the people who believe they don’t fit in and feel like they are simply coasting through life without purpose.
As a triumphant bridge kicks in, however, “Anywhere But Here” builds a cautious feeling of hope — giving us the courage to go out and seek a life that will leave us feeling fulfilled. Offering breezy escapism and deep introspection in equal parts, the new track is a quintessential example of Ayla’s effortless ability to evoke emotions from her audiences without the need for theatrics.
Speaking of the track’s accompanying music video, Ayla explains, “This video is a casual take on escaping the city. ‘Anywhere But Here’ embodies the freedom of leaving a place that feels like a vicious rat race to nowhere. I wanted the video to convey a sense of freedom whether that be riding in the bed of a truck with no destination.”
Keeping authentic lyricism, unique production and soul-soaked vocals at her core, Ayla D’Lyla is the dark pop artist our playlists have been missing — and we don’t want her music to go “Anywhere But Here”.
