When it comes to shining a light on a specific area of culture, female rap is often underrepresented. Giving the culture their time this year, is Issa Rae with her new show RAP SH!T. Teaming up with showrunner Syreeta Singleton and executive producers City Girls’ Yung Miami and JT and Quality Control Films’ Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas, the show will explore two estranged high school friends from the illustrious Miami who come back together to form a rap group.

The announcement comes after Rae’s series finale for her breakout series Insecure last year which saw the TL left in pieces after they came to terms with the end of the era.

Dropping the first teaser trailer last night, we’re automatically thrown into the world of IG lives, 30inch weaves and strip club nights in the 305 where anything and everyone makes an appearance. While the show also puts Miami’s scene on the map, Issa Rae also teased that show is all about navigating Black womenhood and how many young Black women are turning themselves into a brand. Set to premiere July 21st old HBO Max we suggest marking your calendars.
