It is fair to say that we have all battled the Peter Pan-esque thoughts of wanting to resist growing up. Well, neo-soul master, Neon Ion, is here to let you know that she has faced these very same issues with her track “Wildfire”. An atmospheric cut which features other-worldly production, dreamed up by Ivan Blomqvist and Erlend Mokkelbost, that ambiently flows underneath Ion’s ethereal tone, a wonderfully warped soundscape forms. With its sound inherently transportive, the track’s escapist nature is alluded to with every beat.

“It’s a song about being afraid of growing up,” explains the artist when commenting on the song’s core theme. “Being afraid of leaving yourself behind. I see my friends growing up, buying houses, having kids, all grown up and content, while I keep chasing this uncertain dream. It’s a comment on the conventional roles that society makes up for us. And that it’s ok not to be like or want the same stuff as ‘most people’.”

Sure to stir up some introspective thought in listeners and nestles itself in their brains as a track worthy of repeat, especially after a quick watch of its accompanying music video, “Wildfire” is a youthful anthem deserving of the title. Here’s to staying young forever!
