That mid-afternoon Friday slump is here, which means many of you are seeking an energy boost ahead of an evening spent on the town. Well, put that coffee down because we have a sonic remedy for you, and it is Whethan’s MIDNIGHT. Busting into this new music Friday with an almighty bang, the young artist’s latest 9-track project proves itself to be a multi-genre masterpiece, which masterfully weaves itself into the hip-hop, rap and electronic realms serving up high energy as it does so. With Whethan’s distinctive tone clashing with a mirage of collaborations on the album too, we are offered a bold example of the sheer talent spilling out of L.A.’s music scene.

When talking on the feel-good energy surrounding the project, Whethan shares, “MIDNIGHT in its entirety was made during the lockdown and inspired by the up and coming wave of music. These are some of my favourite songs made to do date, and I hope everyone will be able to resonate with a track off this project.”

Upon the release of his new project, the rising talent took a few moments out of his schedule to sit down with Wonderland and discuss the exciting collaboration process that fuelled his new project and a feature on the Chainsmokers’ new album. Head below to enjoy our interview with Whethan…

What would you say have been your peaks and pits of the year so far?
Randomly getting hit up to play Coachella, buying my first house in LA, and my project finally being out. I haven’t really got any pits.

And onto your music, were you always interested in electronic/dance music? What steered you in that direction?
I was always into electronic music from a very young age, I was intrigued by the sounds and the feelings it gave me. Once I heard Skrillex and Daft Punk, I was inspired to create my own music.

Let’s talk about MIDNIGHT! How did you come up with the concept for the project?
It’s just everything I’ve been working on and inspired by from the past year.

If you had to describe it in one word, what would it be?
MIDNIGHT.

How was it working with Magsy? What did your creative process look like?
Working with Magsy was dope. We got in the studio with my boy Dwilly, who I work with a lot. They played me an idea that I loved so much I just had to speed it up, pitch it up, add the Wheaty touch to it, and the end result helped inspire the title of the project.

What do you hope people will take away from the project?
I want people to feel energised, inspired, and want to go out and have a good time.

Do you have any other goals for the upcoming year?
I am already working on the next project, so I want to finish that, collaborate with more artists, and play a bunch of shows.

And are you working on any other exciting projects at the moment?
I was lucky enough to be able to work on the Chainsmokers’ album, which comes out soon, and I’ve been working heavily on the next project, which is going really well.
