TikTok has been responsible for shooting many musicians into the depths of stardom, and one of our favourites to emerge out of the app is Nathan Evans. After experiencing wild success with his track “Wellerman”, the artist on the rise is looking to consolidate his place in the music industry with the help of his rapidly expanding fanbase. And, the way he plans on achieving this? With a UK tour in full swing and the release of Christmas music helping him to make waves, it becomes clear that Nathan is one to watch.

“It was actually 220Kid and Billented’s idea,” explains the artist when discussing his rise through the musical ranks. “They reached out to me over socials saying they had remixed my TikTok video and asked if they could put it on their socials. I said, “of course!” One thing led to another, and the next thing I knew it was a full-blown single and getting played on the radio – it was that quick!”

Reflecting on his career, Nathan got candid with Wonderland about his success, the excitement around his UK tour and releasing Christmas music for the first time. Head below to read our interview with Nathan Evans.

Hey Nathan, how are you?
Yeah, I’m good! I am living the dream, some may say, so I am doing great!

How has 2021 been for you?
It’s been crazy. It’s been such a rollercoaster and an emotional year, but it’s been a dream come true. Going from working a normal routine job to doing music, I love getting to travel the world and to perform for people, it’s just incredible. 2021 has been life-changing.

Loads of people picked up unusual skills last year during lockdown! Did you try anything new?
I bought a digital piano and started messing about with that, now I can play it enough to get me by. I can play chords and doodle about, like I said, enough for me to wing it!

Your career took off during lockdown last year with the remix of “Wellerman”, what inspired you to make the remix?
It was actually 220Kid and Billented’s idea! They reached out to me over socials saying they had remixed my TikTok video and asked if they could put it on their socials. I said, “of course!” One thing led to another, and the next thing I knew it was a full-blown single and getting played on the radio – it was that quick!

Since this, you became viral and shot to the top of the UK Charts, how did this make you feel, what was your initial reaction?
I couldn’t believe it! It was beyond my wildest dreams. I always wanted to be a musician but never thought I’d one day top the charts, especially in such a short period of time!

Did you always want to get into music?
Yes, it was always something I wanted to do. I started singing when I was like 6-7 years old, and then I got my first guitar at 8. It started from there, and I started uploading to YouTube in 2010.

What was the inspiration?
I’m not sure. I just liked making noise and loved music, so it was perfect for me to get into it. It gave me a reason and an excuse to make the noise! But musically, Ed Sheeran has always been the biggest inspiration to me!

You released two songs following “Wellerman”, have you felt pressured to maintain the success?
Not really. I’ve always said, if it makes one other person happy, then that is good enough for me. I do music because I love it, and if I bring happiness and joy to one other person, that’s just a bonus!

What are you most excited for?
I am most excited for the future and to see what next year holds in store, if it’s anything like this year, it will be a rollercoaster, but I’m excited and looking forward to it!

What’s next for you?
I’m actually on my first ever UK tour, and we’ve just released new music ahead of the festive period! This is the first time I’ve released music around this time, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. When I was growing up, we’d always have Christmas music playing from early December right up until New Year’s Eve, so it’s great that I can help spread a little joy around this time of year. It will be great to meet so many of you on my UK tour too, thank you to everyone who continues to support me.
