Following the hype of Far Cry 5 released back in 2018, it’s no surprise that the games successor Far Cry 6 has been at the top of every gamers hit list since it dropped in October. The action-adventure first-person shooter game plunges its participants into the heart of a modern-day guerrilla revolution. With gripping dramatic scenes and high-suspense tasks baked through, players are promised a truly immersive experience. And to make sure it delivers, award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Will Bates scores a destructive soundtrack so intense and disorientating, even an innocent bystander can be swept into the games open-world.

“Inside the Volcano” is an example of how Bates effortlessly penetrates the psyche with his sound, delivering a track packed full of eerie notes, screeching disturbances and a base so deep it makes the spine tingle. “It’s not everyday that you get to write music for a volcanic cavern of molten lava that has an old ship floating in the air,” says Will Bates on the track. He adds that “Inside the Volcano” was “one of the first cues we worked on and it set the stage for the experimental sonic textures in the game; manipulating synths through old amps, pulverising a Hurdy Gurdy through all sorts of pedals; it took my assistant Erik Lutz and I quite a while to put the studio back together after those sessions!”
