While the hit film graced our screens back in February 2020, it feels like only yesterday that we celebrated the stratospheric success of Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite – yes it was that long ago. But some good news: over a year on since his Oscar-winning hit, the director has offered a series of reveals as to the progress and plot of his two follow-up projects.

In an interview on The Director’s Cut podcast, the filmmaker said, “It feels like I’m splitting my brain between half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week.” The director has not revealed much about the plots of both projects, but he has confirmed that one is written in Korean while the other is in English. He added, “the Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action. It’s difficult to define the genre of my films. The English project is a drama film based on a true event that happened in 2016.”

Fuelling the excitement as he graces the carpets of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the acclaimed director gave hints as to what fans can expect from his upcoming HBO “Black comedy” spin-off. Explaining that he will be working in America alongside directing giant Adam McKay – the brain behind Golden Globe-winning drama Succession and films The Big Short and Vice – IndieWire reported that Joon-ho claimed that the series would be “something of great genius.”

With the release dates and plot details still tightly under wraps, it is fair to say movie fans could be waiting a while for the drop of this particular project. But, with chatter pointing towards the likes of Mark Ruffalo being considered for leading roles in the series, it is fair to say that we can expect more award-winning displays from the director very soon.
