Avant-garde. Dramatic. Intricate wearable art. These are just some of the phrases usually synonymous with a description of an Alexander McQueen collection. But, in a bid to strip things back and hone in on the craftsmanship that lies at the heart of its work, the brand unveils its minimalist Pre AW21 menswear collection.
Drawing on cuts from its womenswear collections and much like its sister Pre AW21 collection, McQueen turns its focus to silhouettes, as gendered fashion lines are blurred for its AW21 menswear collection. Offering boldness in the form of ballooned sleeves and voluminous outwear, the collection boasts a muted colour palette, furthering the focus on the clean lines at its core. In a bid to inject some of that beloved McQueen flair into the mix, however, elaborate beading and the signature skull, sun and heart motifs of the brand can be seen. But, with the collection holding its focus on the scaffolding of well-made garments and the bare bones of fashion, the AW21 collection is exactly what it needs to for the times we find ourselves in – simple.
