FENTY

With news of Rihanna and LVMH closing the luxury fashion line indefinitely, we look back at some of the brand’s iconic moments.

When news dropped that Rihanna would be venturing in luxury fashion with her own line, our brains scrambled to comprehend the looks and serves we would be getting from the brand. But less than two years after it’s launch, Rihanna and LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) have mutually agreed to put the Maison on hold indefinitely.

With the pandemic gripping the fashion industry from all angles over the past year, this doesn’t come as a huge surprise as the newly formed house only managed to form a small number of collections before the pandemic hit – with its last collection dropping November 2020. In a statement released today, LVMH said, “Rihanna and LVMH have jointly made the decision to put on hold the RTW activity, based in Europe, pending better conditions.”

But thankfully, the business women’s other ventures such as Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin and Savage X Fenty are all safe and more focus will be on these in coming months, with an expansion of Savage X Fenty in the works. But with the star debuting huge looks in the first 18 months of the Maison, we’re taking a look back on the past two years.

The first collection as a designer is a huge deal, and Rihanna flexed her new Creative Director position in her inaugural range with high shoulder blazers, tailored Japanese denim tops and dramatically oversized fits. Every side of Rihanna’s style was actuated in this collection titled “Release 5-19″, as we saw the vibrant beauty from Loud, the daring and risk-taking style from the Unapologic era and form-fitted sexy side from Good Girl Gone Bad. The premiere of the collection further cemented the singer in the fashion world and she was only getting started.

Fenty x Amina Muaddi

It came as no surprise that we got a shoe range from the singer, as for years Rihanna has been defying the laws of heels by managing not to fall into gaps and sewer gates – and we needed to know how. Teaming up with renowned designer Amina Muaddi, the collaboration saw a range of sassy sling-back sandals and sexy classic stilettos, while taking heel wearing to the extreme with an ultra-slim Muaddi heel. The collection was a sell-out on both drops and we aren’t surprised.

Throwin’ all the shade

Rihanna launched her sunglasses collection alongside her first-ever drop and finally, we could throw all the shade and sip tea in serious style. Marrying futuristic colours with dramatic silhouettes, the bad gal shades delivered the ultimate summer to winter vibes and had us hiding all types of hangovers and shady truths.

Celebs are fans as well

It wasn’t just us rocking the collection, as celebs from all over told us it was strictly Fenty only from now on when they launched, with Bella Hadid and BF A$AP Rocky all sporting the collection. Whether it was the statement fitted denim dresses or alien green-tinged shades, celebs were fans just as much as we were.
