Everything you need to know about Raf Simons’ Prada Menswear debut; AW21 was all about long johns, built-in pouch-gloves, and furry walls.
It’s been almost a year since Raf Simons was announced as co-creative director for Prada and we’re finally getting blessed with his first joint menswear collection with Miuccia Prada for AW21. Entitled Possible Feelings, the live-streamed show took place in the house’s Milan headquarters, and we were immediately drawn into a sophisticated collection with dynamic models sporting slim-fit suits and striking hairstyles.
Promoting the event with luxury Milanese-style care packages finished with Prada’s enamel triangle, IG stories from editors, influences and models were filled with the fur-lined package as they ran their fingers through the lush fibres – little did we know that this would set the tone for the collection.
With the majority of us spending almost a year indoors, holed up in our duvets, we’ve been starved of human interaction and touch, and it seems like the designers felt the same way as this AW21 collection focuses on endless pieces that you just wanted to reach out and touch. With soft leather coats paired with shearling collars and Raf’s signature XL bomber jackets styled with slim-fitting roll necks, each piece fought for our attention as they came out one by one as looks were each finished with ultra-cute Prada pouches that were stitched on sleeves, collars and gloves.
Pulling on 2020’s breakout fashion trend of cosy fits and loungewear, Prada focused on long johns in this collection, as nearly every look was sported with the pattern-crazed onesie-style jumpsuit while others peeked out from the hems of trousers.
But if there is one highlight from the collection that we are eagerly waiting for release is the nifty little pouch which has become a staple for the brand in the past year, as various fast-fashion brands have been in overdrive attempting to recreate. Already looking like the favourite accessories for our wardrobe, the style is having Prada-fans wilding on social media and we’re one of them.
