BOMBSHELL

Everything we know about Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron’s new film.

It feels like we’ve been holding our breath for more info on Bombshell since that first tense, silent teaser dropped in August, and yesterday, the full trailer finally arrived with the ominous opening beats of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy”.

Based on a true story, Bombshell follows a sexual harassment case that unfolded around Roger Ailes, the former Chairman and CEO of American conservative media outlet Fox News. It’s not the first screen depiction of the scandal – earlier this year Russell Crowe stared as Ailes in miniseries The Loudest Voice – which was criticised for portraying the story largely from his point of view. Bombshell, instead, will focus on the women involved.

The stellar cast includes Nicole Kidman, who plays Gretchen Carlson, a Fox News anchor who filed a high-profile lawsuit against Ailes in 2016 alleging that he had fired her for not having sex with him. Other witnesses and victims came forward in response, including anchor Megyn Kelly, portrayed by Charlize Theron. Margot Robbie also stars as fictional character Kayla Pospisil, a young and ambitious new Fox employee we see Ailes, played by John Lithgow, taking advantage of in the trailer.

Watch the clip below, look out for the film in US cinemas from 20 December and the UK from January 2020, and keep tabs for awards season – rumour has it Charlize Theron’s due a second Oscar.
