The Compton-born artist compiles us a playlist of his favourite tracks.

There aren’t many artists that enjoy a fanbase as varied and starry as Channel Tres. His debut single “Controller” only dropped in April last year, but the Compton-born artist has built up a buzzy following, including the likes of Anderson .Paak, Disclosure and Elton John. Yes, you heard right.

Shoulder-shaking house, West Coast rap, plus Tres’ slick, laid-back baritone flow. What’s not to love? And further recognition has come in the form of Vince Staples and Robyn (the queen) asking him to join them on their North American tours.

With his genre-bending sound, who better to get music recommendations from than Channel Tres, who has compiled us a playlist of his favourite tunes…

Lil Uzi Vert – “Free Uzi”

“Uzi flow so tight on this one. This dude just becoming more and more profound. He’s a generational artist.”

Playboi Carti – “Long Time”

“This song helps me appreciate the process. Nothing worthwhile comes easy or fast, and you never know when a breakthrough is going to happen.”

Kid Cudi – “Trauma”

“This shit so grunge. This whole record to me is just a trip through a bunch of really honest, creative, genre-bending songs. Love Cudi for this stuff. “

Pan Amsterdam, Iggy Pop, Leron Thomas – “Mobile”

“The production is really good and the poetry is amazing. The track kinda keeps you slightly off balance but still focused.”

ScHoolboy Q – “Numb Numb Juice”

“Love Q, the video fire too. He probably my favourite rapper right now and I still feel like he underrated. Excited for the new project.”

Chuck Mangione – “Feel So Good”

“I want this shit to play every morning when I wake up no matter where I am.”

Solange – “Almeda”

“Carti was on jazz chords. This whole project to me is pretty crazy. It’s all basically interludes but presented in such unique ways.”

Robyn – “Between The Lines”

“The production is different. Robyn is the queen of the crossover dance stuff. I got to see her perform this track every night of tour and it was one of the best parts of the show.”

Todd Terje – “Delorean Dynamite”

“This my warm-up song before shows. It’s energetic and uptempo but still has a sense of being in control.”

J. Cole – “Land Of The Snakes”

“The beat is so smooth. There are a lot of live drum sounds on the album, I think that’s why I love it so much.”

Mysunshine – “Knxwledge”

“This clears my head and helps me hit the reset button. Gotta be able to find a place of clarity whenever you can.”

Channel Tres will be playing Lightning in a Bottle festival between 8 – 13 May.
