[WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD]
Game of Thrones‘s final season returned for its third episode last night, and boy did it resonate. Arya finished the Night King off with a dagger given to her by Bran, and a move trialled on Ser Brienne in a spar, both examples of the show’s exemplary narrative foreshadowing at play. We lost Theon Greyjoy, once a traitor, now a hero, killed defending Bran from a motly crew of unruly (and actually ultimately useless) White Walkers.
We discovered the purpose of Beric Dondarrion’s perennial resurrections, the eye-patched character cutting a Christ-like figure as he staved off murderous zombies in order to fulfil his true purpose and protect Arya and her destiny. Melissandre finally (sort of) atoned for murdering a little kid in the name of a mysterious God, Grey Worm survived, and Lyanna Mormont KILLED A FUCKIN GIANT. It was amazing. Anyway, as always, Twitter did its thing, reacting in wacky, wonderful, and sometimes warming ways to the narrative (and literal) onslaught. See below for our picks of the bunch.
