Shake It

(Fake) IDs at the ready: Alexander McQueen’s twisted kid brother McQ is taking you to clubland for SS16.

What do you get when you mix late 80s New York’s post- punk with Dalston club kids? McQ’s SS16 collection, obv. This season, everyone’s favourite moody-chic brand returns with a collection which masters the tricky blend of subversive with luxurious. Mixing clean-cut classics such as white T-shirts and denim midi-skirts with chunky, harness-like chains, this is a collection that whispers of something more savage beneath its elegant exterior.

Innocence is toyed with in a sheer black nightslip-style dress with white lace trim, whilst the brand’s rebellious spirit is ever-apparent in the collection’s silver foil-embossed jacket, mini dress and skin-tight leather trousers. Fabrics are gathered around statement zips whilst flared silhouettes evoke a louche 70s sex appeal. Fuse this with McQ’s staple androgynous tailoring and a decent pinch of irreverence, and you get clothes that’ll carry you from dusk ‘til dawn. Or the club to the corner cafe the morning after, that is.
