We hang out with new duo on the block, girlyboi, ahead of their gig at London’s Shoreditch House.
Young rising duo girlyboi took a year off from being bored in America to write and perform their upcoming album. After moving to Paris, and being immediately thrown into the fashion world, they signed with modelling agencies, shooting glamorised ideas of being young, beautiful musicians. This skewed their perspective of the music world and they channeled this idea of “being packaged” into their live performance.
They’ve recently premiered their album in Berlin and their first single “Actual Woman” has just been released and is available via girlyboi.net. Sonically, the music is ambient, psychedelic, folky, and sexy. They’re spending the time leading up to their full release, unpacking their glamour and uncovering how it really is to be young, broke, and pursuing a “romantic idea” that really isn’t as pretty as it sounds on paper.
