Maripol references, Madonna’s sounds, Little-Bo-Peep-meets-Prom-
From the minute the Maripol invite, featuring Miss M herself, arrived on our desks we knew we were in for a real treat. The collection titled Holiday Celebrate paying homage to the Queen of Pop – Madonna – was a whirlwind of avant-garde crocheted ra-ra structures, graphic sequin peppered patterns, duct tape ‘X’ concealed nipples, oversized headwear and perfect Perspex graphic jewellery, before we even mention the tangerine-dream pièce de résistance – a layered crochet prom dress, compete with sequin overlay. The stacking bangles and chunkily configured jewellery that accessorised the collection, designed by none other than Tatty Devine’s Harriet Vine, was a nod to the hardware worn by many a girl band circa 1980’s.
