It’s not every day you meet someone willing to take on Jay-Z’s classic, but Phreeda Sharp is stepping up to the plate.

“If you havin’ boy problems I feel bad for you hon, I got 99 problems but a prick ain’t one.” Meet Phreeda Sharp, the self-styled Bad Jane of rap, resplendent in black crop top, tight ponytail and more gold than you can shake your moneymaker at. Born and raised in Ghana, she’s now moved to Hackney and is ready to tear rap up – starting with Hov himself.

’99 Problems’ is the first video off her upcoming mixtape, Ruby Sex & Vultures, which features collabs with Don Diablo, bassDrumsnareDrum, Ollie Green, and Jerome Williams. Do you think she pulls it off?

Lily Cole kisses all the boys (and girls) and makes them cry in ‘Sacrilege’, the new music video from Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just dropped a music video to accompany ‘Sacrilege’, the first single off their upcoming record Mosquito, featuring a wholesome-looking Lily Cole in the kind of backwater American town that wouldn’t be out of place in Deliverance. Except – spoiler alert – she’s hooked up with all the locals, including the local sheriff. Not unlike Deliverance, everything gets very messy and it all ends up going very, very badly for Cole.

Mosquito is out on April 16th via Interscope.

This week saw James Franco going behind the camera to shoot Lindsey Lohan in REM’s new video, Blue. The band have enlisted film-makers and artists to produce short films for each track on their album Swansong. We take a look at the most wonderous music videos featuring celebrities.

1. Christopher Walken in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice

At number one it has to be this inspired. tune by Fatboy Slim. Christopher Walken gets his groove on as he dances the night away solo in an empty hotel foyer.

2. Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Ron Howard and Samuel L Jackson in Jamie Foxx’s Blame It

Yes, Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Ron Howard and Samuel L. Jackson smash it in this Hype Williams-directed video. Strippers and booze a go go in the ultimate lads’ night out.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal in Good Shoes’ Time To Dance

Loving the music videos, here’s Gyllenhaal once again – but this time he’s in dirty Dalston, rather than the luxe LA club scene, hanging out with cool party kids. It’s lengthy but well worth the watch.

4. Eddie Murphy, Iman and Magic Johnson in Michael Jackson’s Remember The Time

In at number four, roll on the lion cubs in Michael Jackson’s Eyptian opus Remember the Time. Directed by Shaft director John Singleton, the vid shows Murphy and Iman in a sandstone castle being entertained by Jackson.

5. Courtney Cox in Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark

Check out a very young Courtney Cox jumping on stage with Bruce Springsteen. Check out the short choppy haircut on The Boss’ pal. Yep, it was definitely the 80s.

6. Keanue Reeves in Paula Abdul’s Rush, Rush

Paula Abdul swoons over classmate Keanu Reeves (cue the “Keanue Reeves can rush over my…” comments from YouTube users). Loving the smarmy scene in the drive-in cinema.

7. Robert Downey Jr. in Elton John’s I Want Love

Lastly but certainly not least, here’s post-rehab RDJ in Elton John’s stirring ode to lonely singleton life. Some magnificent miming from Downey Jr. here as he sultrily wanders through an empty mansion.

After Daniel Bedingfield strips down naked in his new video Secret Fear and flashed us a very NSFW look at his penis, the Internet’s been abuzz over what nudity is acceptable in music vids, and what isn’t. For Bedingfield’s benefit, we’ve found some of the best and worst NSFW videos to learn from.

BEST

1. Christina Aguilera, Dirty (2002)

It’s almost shocking looking back at this video, especially since it used to be played in the daytime television – but who doesn’t Even though she is surrounded by numerous sweaty half naked men, Christina’s lack of an outfit seems to be covering so much, but still managing to show way more than you need to see.

2. Kelly Rowland, Lay It On Me (2011)

Here’s Kelly playing with a Slinky; here’s a guy who (possibly) has a hard-on; some very dodgy foot worship – with all that inneundo, Rowland piles on a large elephant to hammer home the point. On the other hand, who wouldn’t love sitting on a chair made of roughly 10 live male bodies?

3. Ciara ft. Justin Timberlake, Love Sex Magic (2009)

This video is the perfect combination of moderate nudity and sexy dancing without being way too much for viewers to handle. Yes, we just put the words “moderate” and “nudity” together. Ciara keeps it class by sticking to the rules of no more than two areas of skin showing. If her stomach and a little bit of cleavage are out her legs are covered, to avoid way too much flesh being exposed.

WORST

1. D’Angelo, Untitled (2000)

Even though the camera stops just at the right point to avoid seeing actual penis, zooming in on a nude man touching himself up gets pretty awkward if you’re watching a friend or a family member. Initially hailed as a triumph of the female gaze, this video loses its sex appeal pretty fast once you consider that D’Angelo suffered a nervous breakdown as a result of the vid.

2. Ne-Yo, Lazy Love (2012)

Ne-Yo’s already known for having raunchy videos but this is probably his most inappropriate one to date. The general interpretation of lazy love is eating junk food in bed with your loved one for an entire day while watching Great British Bake-Off reruns. Thanks for ruining that illusion, Ne-Yo.

3. Raindrops, Jeremih (2009)

It’s very hard to make videos with strippers and poles tasteful (remember Showgirls, that bastion of good taste?), but this was clearly not one of those attempts. Jeremih took this one a little bit to far, which is probably why this video can’t be found on his own YouTube anymore.

Picking your top music video of year can be as difficult as choosing your favourite child, which is why we gave the task to people we knew would take it seriously – introducing London-based directors Us, also known as Luke Taylor and Chris Barrett. Since graduating in 2007, the pair have produced a number of stylish and entertaining videos for various musicians, including Mirrors, Dels and the Mobo-nominated video for Wiley’s, Numbers in Action. Last month, the pair landed an award for ‘best new director’ at the UK Music Video Awards and are now poised to take their content to the masses. So without further ado, here are Us’s top five music videos of 2011, and why they liked them so much…

Manchester Orchestra – Simple Math
Directed by Daniels (read our interview with the directors here)

“This is a rare instance where you like the song more because of the video. The concept that you’re seeing your life back is great – it blows the mind how the hell they did it.”

Is Tropical – The Greeks
Directed by Megaforce

“It’s a video where kids kill each other with toy guns, but with blood coming out of them. It’s absolutely brilliant. It’s funny and cute, but one of the kids is a bit scary, though.”

Woodkid – Iron
Directed by Yoann Lemoine

“There are some incredible comp shots in this that look like the world’s going to end, but in a kind of cool way.”

Metronomy – The Bay
Directed by David Wilson

“We pitched on this, and it was just one of those ones where you don’t get a job and you’re a bit bitter, but then you see it’s an amazing job. It’s filmed in Torquay, but it’s made to look like it’s in Cannes or somewhere. There’s some really cool shots and just a great job for what I think the brief was.”

Duck Sauce – The Big Bad Wolf
Directed by Keith Schofield

“This one’s just ridiculous. I don’t want to spoil it for people that haven’t seen it, but it’s so ridiculous in every sense of the word. It just fits the song perfectly and it’s amazing.”
