TOPMAN’s Open Shoot projects are always a hit. Focused on joining music artists and creatives with their fans and TOPMAN audiences, Open Shoot creates new and exciting creative projects focused on style and music. For their third instalment, TOPMAN partnered up with Game of Thrones star and singer Raleigh Ritchie. Taking inspiration from his tune “Cowards”, which will be rearranged and reworked for the film’s score, Ritchie is creating, scoring, directing AND starring in his short film with the help of fans and TOPMAN audiences. TOPMAN not only showcases the talent and vision of the artists, but also the originality of their fans. It’s almost too good to be true, and on top of Ritchie’s short film, we’ll be getting a series of behind-the-scenes videos to see the creative process. Total win.

The 6 “making of” videos created for fans and TOPMAN audiences will be made out of footage from the filming of the fan-based interactive project, which was filmed between 22-29 June. These videos will give you exclusive behind-the-scenes access and in depth conversations with Ritchie and the collaborators about the creative and production processes. This is TOPMAN’s most creative and ambitious Open Shoot to date, so expect lots of interesting and exciting footage of the creation of the film.

The short itself will premiere in August, with Raleigh Ritchie introducing the project to fans and contributors who followed and collaborated with him to create it, and it all forms part of the series of collaborative videos that TOPMAN TV will be treating us to this summer. We can’t wait to see it.

Devore Dreams

Textures were to be doubled up at Topman Design today. Chiffon shirts got the devore treatment with velvety floral overlays and the fun didn’t stop there. Kimonos were clad in the same flowered print and a two piece oversized suit got the double distressed velvet treatment in bronze. Devore even crept onto knits and matching plum trousers. Menswear seems to be at its comfiest and cosiest for AW16. Just as desirable are the silk shirts and pyjama pants, look like you’ve just rolled out of a luxe bed for all of winter.

Float Forever

Even the cuffs managed to drip away at Topman. Unbuttoned and longer than the boys’ fingertips, sleeves were Prada-esque but, dare we say it, even prettier on oversized shirts in dainty prints that were long like dresses that crept out below waistcoats and blazers. Hoodies had languid double drapes on their fronts and coats were the shape of dressing gowns.

Acid Trip

Double denim has been a staple trend in recent years but Topman upped their game in double acid wash. Denim was scuffed, ripped and frayed, naturally but also had micro foiled patterns. Funnel necked hooded jackets looked like straightjackets in pale blue in a welcome change to the classic. Finally we got a nostalgic look back to noughties fun fashion – trouser chains, you’re no-one without one this season.

What?

Last season we swung back to sun-drenched seventies via a pitstop at Woodstock, but with the show titled ‘Bombay City Rollers’, this season we took style notes from the Scottish tartan-clad teens.

Who?

Models with hair coiffed in centre partings owned the catwalk with oversized shaggy shearlings, patchwork tri-tone furs, chalk stripe suits, triple-patched denim boiler suits, tasselled ponchos, lengthy coats and exaggerated outerwear.

Where?

The Old Sorting Office – to the sounds of Skatt Bros ‘Walk the Night’, The Osmonds ‘Crazy Horses’, and an unexpected bass-heavy remix of Tiga ‘Bugatti’ – to a backdrop of psychedelic swirling graphics.

Want?

The bodacious yellow tartan suit, complete with oversized denim and cream frizz-fur coat slung on top and a lightening bolt, ‘Rebel’ patched boiler suit, just for good measure.

Topman have announced the launch of their newest collaboration with British artist Richie Culver, renowned for his experimentation with mixed media, paintings and collages

topman_8244832054243265

The eleven piece collection will feature work taken from Culver’s early experimentations as an artist, placing graphic photographic images in black and white atop garments in either black, white or grey, allowing a plain and clean canvas for the art to shine through.

Influenced by his experiences of coming-of-age in Hull, where he grew up, Culver has spoken about the autobiographical nature of the works used, and how they reflect the disgruntled ambition that he felt as a teenager.

Explaining the collection, Culver says: ‘Working with Topman means a lot to me, just like the British weather, sarcasm, football, things people see as English or British, Topman is up there in my opinion. This collaboration feels personal to me and I’ve tried to make the collection as British as possible, pulling out pieces from my artwork to fit today’s Topman.’

Set launch on 2nd October, the collection is accompanied by a short film, created by Culver and directed by his friend Tom Beard. You can watch it below.

Aptly named SeventiesNineties, Topman SS15 harked back to ‘70s psyhchedelia immersing spectators with a feel-good haze of Woostock vibes, borrowing a few staple trends from the ‘90s along the way.

Kicking it back to the old-school, the catwalk was awash with silk floral print shirts, skinny jumbo cords, turtle necklines, flower infused robes, miss-matched patchwork, candy-hued pastel tailoring, velvet textures, thick rim glasses, fringed leather, sports socks, flared trousers, dreamy double denim and washed out logos reading ‘Woodstock’ and ‘Mexico’.

Paying homage to the happy-go-lucky music fuelled era, yellow and black daisy print morphed from nan’s carpet and onto the catwalk, having never looked so chic, whilst a faded out acid-bright landscape print strewn upon a silky fabric mirrored that on the show invitation.

Stand out looks came in the shape of a glitter-clad mint green power suit a la Mick Jagger and an aqua blue and Parma Violet hued towelling short and robe combo, worn with matchy-matchy printed box suitcase, which came in close second.

Each individual reference sublimated into a heady mix of psychadelic Woodstock meets Brit Pop hedonism, manifested to the sound of Blur – ‘Girls & Boys’, Todd Terje – ‘Inspector Norse’ and a string of other hits du jour. All aboard the Topman love train, you’re in for a real good ride.

Last night saw the premier of Topman‘s Festival 214 with an intimate performance from Tom Vek, the Oxford Circus flagship store was filled with an infusion of alt-indie and dance music as a celebration of both Tom and Topman’s work. The festival will feature the most inimitable bands and DJs, such as Telegram, TOY, Tropics and Bipolar Sunshine. A riotous mix of eclectic melodies from the brand’s pick of the coolest guys will echo from the 214 stage for the next four days, what’s more it’s completely free. So if donning a pair of wellies isn’t your thing – head to Topman for a taste of summer indoors.
