Christopher Shannon Spring/Summer 2014 Hair

The prize for best hair at London Collections? Definitely Christopher Shannon: all the models looked like they’d be dipped headfirst into a giant pot of glitter. Were we the only ones who thought it’d make for a great look for a festival? You could be three days into Bestival’s muddiest year and still look like queen of the rave mermaids.

“The whole look is reminiscent of Christopher and his youth in Liverpool,” Creative Director of Fudge John Vial, told us. “When he was a kid with no money he wanted a groovy look to go disco-dancing so he used glitter – which is cheap – to create it. There’s a saying, ‘poverty fuels creativity’, and that was definitely the case here. Like with the punk movement, they had no money, so when they wore bin bags it wasn’t because they wanted to it wasn’t because they couldn’t afford patent leather. So Christopher said, ‘How can I jazz it up?’ The answer was glitter!

1. The first step is to brush the hair forward and sweep to the side. Prep the hair by painting Fudge Hair Varnish Shine Wax on with a tint brush and layering it up to create a sticky base. The problem with glitter is that it goes everywhere and doesn’t stay on so this step is really important for making sure that it stays in place.

2. Scatter different coloured glitter onto the hair. Make-up glitter is best to use although you can also use arts and craft glitter if you have nothing else. You can use as much or as little glitter as you like – you can even use these steps to create panels of glitter or even a dip-dye effect on longer styles. Finish it off with our Glitter Blast Spray.

3. Seal the glitter using a strong hair spray (we used Fudge Membrane Spray) and let it set. The beauty with this look is that it is so easy – it was great for a runway show where you need to be quick and efficient but it can also be used to create a bold look in a hurry. After all no one wants to spend hours getting ready – well, apart from in Liverpool, of course!”

Last night marked Agent Provocateur’s first fashion show in five years – and it was all for a good cause. Along with latex designer Atsuko Kudo, the two pooled their (skimpily-clad) resources to produce a charity lingerie show that set Old Billingsgate Market on fire. Wonderland went backstage for all the NSFW spills and thrills.

The show raised funds for the Seven Bar foundation, a charity tackling poverty head-on by empowering women in poverty-stricken areas through microfinance loans. To those of us who didn’t graduate with a degree in economics, that means lending money to women all over the world – from impoverished villages in Guatemala to slums in India – so that they can fund their own business and improve their lives.

According to Fudge global session stylist Snowden Hill, the entire event was a long time in the making. “It’s basically been a three-month process,” he told us. “There were just under 90 heads of hair to do for two shows – but my favourite was probably the Goth look, which was just drizzles of hair. The clothes are so sexy, so doing something a bit off the beaten track was great!”

The good cause attracted a fair few celebrities, with Abbey Clancey and Peaches Geldof (below) strutting their stuff down the catwalk and Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd putting up £12,000 in the charity auction for a VIP Glastonbury ticket (although he seemed to regret it later). That’s a couple thousand pounds for a good cause, at least?!
