Since it’s 2010 launch, the Eastpak Artist Studio has produced some of the coolest, most original, and artistically innovative backpack designs that have hit the streets – and the project only gets better. Offering some of the world’s top fashion names (previous designers include Jean Paul Gauthier, Walter Van Beirendonck, Manolo Blahnik) a special-edition blank Padded Pak’r® backpack to distress, re-design, reconstruct and reinterpret with their own artistic vision and design flairs, Eastpak Artist Studio results in backpack designs that we couldn’t imagine in our wildest dreams. Turning into 12 unique works of art, the Eastpak Artist Studio is helping save lives, through raising money for the charity Designers Against AIDS.

With this year’s artists including some of fashion’s most lusted after designers, each with their own unique vision and energy – Christopher Raeburn, Vetements, Kenzo, House of Holland, Jacquemus, Zeba Safdar, Ami Paris, Nicopanda, Wanda Nylon, Alexandre Vautheir, Giambattista Valli and Inan  – Eastpak’s Artist Studio are both transforming Eastpak’s iconic backpacks into works of art, and making a difference to the lives of people all around the world.

The creations from this year’s edition of Eastpak Artist Studio will go on sale via this website on World AIDS Day, December 1st, 2016.

Eastpak have always been at the forefront of innovative bag design. Since it’s inception in 1976, the brand has been designing rucksacks that are not only suitable for outside adventures, but also look amazing too. From the plain black to the plain bizarre (from their incredibly successful designer collaborations), they’ve done it all. Now, as part of their Holiday 2016 collection, Eastpak have designed the American Dream in a rucksack.

Remembering the history that surrounds 1976 – it’s not only the brand’s birthday, that year also marks 200 years of American independence – the brand are marking the occasion with an all-American revamp of their most popular bag style: Eastpak Padded Pak’r.

Redesigning their classic style, which has been one of the most popular rucksacks in the world thanks to its casual yet innovative design, and giving it an American-style makeover, has led to the Spirit of ’76, a bag that represents both their history, and America’s. Think stars and stripes together with classic Eastpak design traits and you’re onto a winner.

If backpack mavericks Eastpak make you think of Travis Birkenstock and his baggy trousered skater cronies in Clueless, you haven’t seen the new Eastpak X Jean Paul Gaultier collab. Having first joined forces for the fourth edition of Eastpak Artist Studio in support of Designers Against AIDS (following in the footsteps of Raf Simon and Walter Van Beirendonck), whilst JPG is renowned for extravagance, this new collection is surprisingly pared back.

Think lush pastel tones with trademark overstitched Breton stripes. Here, simplicity, functionality and wearability are paramount. The limited edition lines dropped exclusively in Selfridges in February, but those of us who aren’t on the Forbes list can bag a bargain from the main line stores come April. Backpack’s back, alright!

As part of the Eastpak Artist Studio project, Eastpak has teamed up with Designers Against Aids to produce a range of special-edition customised Eastpak bags created by some of the biggest names in fashion and their latest collaboration is with none other than Manolo Blahnik.

With a history of making bags since 1952, Eastpak’s collaboration with the award-winning Spanish fashion designer is one that is highly anticipated. Renowned for his range of covetable stylish shoes, Manolo has created a one off backpack, simple but chic – all white adorned with bold red trimming and a red stitched signature, to be auctioned off later this year for charity based organization Designers Against Aids.

Launched in 2004, DAA is a non-profitable charity set up by Beauty Without Irony that aims to raise awareness against AIDS/ HIV. Eastpak Artist Studio brings together some of the most creative and inspiring designers from around the world and tasks them with customizing their blank canvas bag. This year’s fourth edition of the bags promises to attract attention from every corner of the fashion world.

Including the works of Jean Paul Gaultier and Christopher Lee Sauve, the designer bags will be auctioned off this December 1, World Aids Day, and all proceeds given to the charity.
