Calling all beautiful boys and big-footed babes, you’re in for a real treat. Luxury menswear designer Alex Mattsson has collaborated with CAT footwear to produce a cutting-edge Colorado boot (styled by none other than Wonderland’s very own Matthew Josephs), and it’s stomping into Machine A this weekend.

Having supplied footwear for Alex Mattsson’s AW13 and SS14 presentations and lookbooks, an actual partnership between CAT footwear and one of the UK fashion scene’s brightest sparks made sense. And of course, Mattsson’s interpretation of the Colorado boot makes it more iconic than ever.

With as much substance as style, the Alex Mattsson x CAT footwear Colorado boot makes the most of the brand’s technical features: a stacked sole, a 3M tongue and a unique strap locking system and mix of leathers from CAT’s expansive material libraries.

“CAT has an amazing track record,” said Mattson. “In terms of creative freedom, it’s a dream situation for a designer. It’s limitless in that you can do whatever you want. It’s really exciting to work for a company that can make your ideas happen.”

If you’ve ever wondered how rugged boots became cool, you can credit CAT footwear. Built for life, the Colorado boot internalised the strength and flexibility innate in all CAT machinery into the finest footwear equipment. Since 1991, every Colorado sole has been stamped ‘Walking Machine’ – a testament to how far you’ve come and how far you’ll go.

Christopher Shannon founded his luxury menswear brand with a vision of continuing the legacy of fine British tailoring, whilst Cat Footwear started on the feet of the industrial workforce. And now the two have collaborated to make a boot that walks somewhere in between.

It turns out that both brands have something to offer the other. Cat has extensive material libraries and knowledge of what makes a shoe built to last, in fact, the soul of every Colorado boot is stamped with ‘Walking Machines’,  whilst the Central Saint Martins alumni, who founded his company in 2008, was earlier this year awarded the first ever BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund award.

The resultant collaboration ­– one boot that comes in two colour ways – features the Colorado’s T3 rubber outsole, a stacked midsole, and a tumbled leather upper.

Cat say that they are “thrilled to be working with a talent as exciting as Shannon’s”, and the young designer – who studied under the late Professor Louise Wilson – is equally as impressed with the footwear company. “We aim to work with companies who work to a really high standard and finish,” says Shannon.

This mutual respect between the two brands makes for a stomping collaboration, with style credentials to boot.
