Live on Snapchat

Logging onto Snapchat in the morning usually results in some people pre-drinking before their ‘mad’ night out or someone having deep talks about a pressing issue, but this was something special. The Burberry Prorsum Show was now also available to view! You press on the name and watch the 10 second mini clips, trying to clasp onto any possible feeling of exclusivity or feeling Cara Delevingne’s soft blonde hair. The brand’s digital innovation strategy allowed us to preview the collection backstage and onstage live from our phones, also inviting us into the brand’s design studios and onto the red carpet, where Anna Winter radiated FASHION. The Burberry Prorsum Live Show was shown to the platform’s 100 million users and was definitely a highlight of the event.

Functionregalia

Let’s talk about the collection. Functional and classic pieces were intertwined with regalia-themed features: military tones, hand-embroiderery, crests and metallic cording. The clothing itself consisted of satin dresses hidden behind leather jackets and a variety of outerwear that pleasantly enhanced fluid and structured dresses. The colours were soft but tempting; nudes, creams and golds were used fairly regularly, of course highlighting the elements of regalia, and the fabrics themselves? The craftsmanship was like no other – an assortment of lace, Swarovski on silk, gold embroidery, chains, cashmere, satin and silk. The Royal Family would be pleased.

That Little Things that Matter

Accessories are always big elements in any womenswear collection, but the world now seems to adore that little rucksack that was previewed on the Snapchat Live Show. The Burberry Prorsum Rucksack in gabardine-constructed nylon is the new it-piece for all Burberry Prorsum lovers. Every look on the runway was paired with a low-hanging rucksack and dare we say that it was our favourite piece of the night – is anyone willing to swap for a Herschel backpack in good condition?

At the bottom of the garden

Burberry showed at Kensington Gardens once more for SS16. Their signature mac followed the theme and was given a floral lace update for the girls, while the boys had all the sweetness and charm of an English country garden in floral applique blazers and shirts with central lace bibs and white delicate collars.

The Royal Borough

Not only was the show held at Kensington, Burberry debuted their new cut, The Chelsea. Burberry menswear’s fourth fit style and an entirely new silhouette was modelled on a Made In England trench plus plenty of tailoring. You can get the Chelsea look on just about everything else too, with suits, shirts and ties all taking on the fresh style.

Prints and picnics

The girls might have got the cute backpacks but the boys got woven briefcases like miniature picnics baskets you could (almost) wear to work. The tailored look was played down this season with cashmere joggers and we were treated to playful print accents with tiger and giraffe making an appearance and tiny bugs acting as tie-pins.

Patchwork, Pattern & Prints

Burberry’s AW15 collection name – “Patchwork, Pattern & Prints” – did what it said on the tin, and so much more. Presenting a collection of intricate paisleys, bohemian florals inspired by Durham quilts, camouflage printed lace, patchwork print and fringed suede, along with the leopard print seen on the catwalk for the AW15 Burberry menswear collection – this was a mash-up of Burberry heritage, current trends and future trends alike. Whilst the Bucket Bag was introduced (can we all get one now please?), so was the Ponytail boot, think a plunge V front and tassels that sashay in the wind as you walk. Dreamy.

Seventies Seduction

With belted suede longline jackets, elegant midnight blue and black patchwork suede coats, thigh-high suede panelled boots and a full fringe toffee hued suede coat all appearing in the collection, it’s safe to say the seventies were in favour and to say we’re digging it would be an understatement. If full suede fringing isn’t your thing, we’ve also set our (hopeful) sights on the printed, mirror embellished ponchos, featuring in muted purple, navy, green and blue, their sure to make a statement when winter comes rolling in.

Teddy Boys ‘n’ Girls

It would have been rude of Burberry not to throw a few gorgeous males onto the runway too, right? Wearing olive green teddy bear fur, leopard print suede and brown corduroy trousers, oversized camel suede bag in hand, everyone wants to bag a Burberry boy this season. Of course, it would only be apt to have his and hers. Olive teddy bear fur for him, caramel teddy bear fur for her. Now, to find that man…

Bridging the gap between fashion and the arts further still by paying homage to acclaimed British novelist and writer Bruce Chatwin, Burberry Prorsum’s Menswear SS15 collection features original illustrations and typographic prints, driven by vintage English book cover designs.

Whilst the live sound of British singer, Benjamin Clementine resonated through the sweet summer air, the SS15 Burberry models advanced down the catwalk in a formation of colour progression. Divulging from a deep plum, with accents of lime and violet in the form of floppy non-structured hats, to a midnight blue, burnt orange, marigold yellow and emerald green – the entire spectrum was covered this time around at Burberry.

Whilst AW14 was built for the nomadic traveller with shearling coats, layers and fur, SS14 entitled ‘Book Covers & Bruce Chatwin’, was for the creative man, the writer, the poet, the artist. Designed and painted in house, each artwork was then printed onto cashmere, cotton and leather, presenting us with a visual feast of typography plastered onto scarves, oversized satchels and leather folio cases. Other stand out pieces included a sharp tailored double breasted suit jacket, a modern tangerine hued take on the classic duffle coat, an all over logo-branded trench coat and of course the floppy hats worn with each and every look throughout.

Following the show, Josh Record played a live set in the courtyard of the show space, a continuation of the serene atmosphere set by Benjamin Clementine from the offset.

You can’t deny Christopher Bailey knows how to put on a good show. He presented his latest collection in the ginormous tent in Kensington Gardens to an impressive crowd of Harry Styles, Tinie Tempah, Olivia Palermo, Anna Wintour and Bradley Cooper, there to support his girlf (and Rollacoaster cover star) Suki Waterhouse. The show was accompanied, as always, by live performances this season including Paloma Faith who closed the show.

The initial feel of the show was travellers, the theme seemed to continue from the last menswear show with the aztec prints and massive blanket ponchos. The creative inspiration for the collection was the British decorative art of the Bloomsbury set and Charleston, the country home and meeting place for the writers, painters and intellectuals who formed the group.

The iconic Burberry trench and shearling coat was updated with hand painted watercolour-style floral prints and belted at the waist with flowing silk scarves. The silhouette was relaxed with oversized ponchos and coats and textured layers, with a colour palette of  elderberry, cameo pink, blackcurrant, bright olive. BTW we want/need one of those initial blanket ponchos.
