Louis Vuitton strikes art gold once again! Having had previous collaborations with world renowned artists such as Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince, the maison furthers their ties in the contemporary art world by hosting an art talk between artist Sarah Lucas and Whitechapel Gallery director, Iwona Blazwick. The Maison currently features a display of Sarah Lucas’ series ‘Self Portraits 1990-1998’. These twelve iconic works are available to purchase in the New Bond Street Bookstore, beautifully presented in a custom made box exclusive to Louis Vuitton.

Sarah Lucas

The talk was to explicate Lucas’ exhibition, “Situation” held at the Whitechapel Gallery. This is Sarah Lucas’ first major solo exhibition in London. Bringing together over two decades of sculpture, installation and photography, ‘Situation’ explores Lucas’s remarkable career and assesses the vital role she plays in British art. The talk brought out some of the art worlds most influential to Vuitton’s New Bond Street Maison. Guests included Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Harriet Verney, Pheobe Collings-James, Kim Hersov, Bay Garnett, Sadie Coles, Iwona Blazwick, Annie Morris and Idris Khan.

Last week a dark mood blanketed the world of fashion, with the recent news of Marc Jacobs’ departure from the venerable House of Louis Vuitton. Here’s a look back at some of the most fantastic bags he bestowed us with, his greatest gift to the portable world.

1. Julie Verhoeven

High priestess of illustration Julie obscured the monogram with scenes of owls, deer and mushrooms, like you’d left your sac a main in a magical glade. They endure as a beautiful and atypically irony free vision of  Vuitton.

2. Takashi Murakami

As with many of Marc’s designs, this collaboration seemed entirely mental. It’s only with time we’ve seen a world engulfed by kawaii, with Murakami’s ‘Kaikai Kiki’ studio leading the charge.

3. The Laundry bag

Prior to the current vogue for chinese laundry bag everything, Marc launched the Vuitton version, woven out of leather rather than the usual gorgeous plastic. It was incredible, being essentially exactly the same as the original, but with a giant logo on it.

4.  Richard Prince

Marc turned the s/s 2008 runway into a Richard Prince tableau, replete with sinister supermodel nurses and paint splattered handbags. Everything.

5. Yayoi Kusama

Possibly clinically insane Japanese artist wheeled out to paint polka dots on clutches.

6. The Silver Bag

Every girl worth her trust fund wanted one, and thus they spread across the land. Long live the metallic hold all.

7. Stephen Sprouse

Finally, the greatest of all handbags, that which was scrawled with the iconic graffiti of Mr Sprouse. Literally world changing, the moment at which the street stormed the hallowed world of high fashion handbag.
