Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Fall 2024 collection, where Paris meets New York, is a bridge between two cultures; the veritable style capitals of the world. In other words, a Dior dreamland rooted in the luxury brand’s symbolic history. Embodying this very notion is Dior muse and iconic actor, Marlene Dietrich, whose provocative presence (both on and
off screen) and androgynous allure characterises the collection, which at the heart of it, has a will for women to do and wear whatever they want – just like Marlene’s own give-a-damn approach. Fusing the iconic Dior silhouette with the actor’s boyish glamour, think tweeds fabricated from a selection of English menswear fabrics (a direct nod to Marlene’s historically scandalous suits), experimental knits, and structured jackets paired with wide-leg pants and ankle-teasing skirts. Lace-encrusted lingerie dresses, inspired by the ‘40s, work in tandem with elegant linen coats. Some are sheer, others boast the cannage motif atop their quilted nylon fabric, with embroidery mimicking the brooches and signature codes of the luxury house’s founding- couturier: the star, the lily of the valley, the clover and the bee. This is a world in which women are free; where all their needs are met; where they are encouraged to do it the Dietrich – and Dior – way.
