RAF SIMONS AW21

Not a dreary winter ‘fit in sight! The iconic designer said more is more with his vibrant genderless AW21 collection.

Between co-directing Prada and being the creative force behind his own eponymous label, we don’t know where Raf Simons finds the time to continue to create impressive collections. Debuting his AW21 collection yesterday during a co-ed showcase, Simons had us eager for the upcoming season with a selection of tremendously oversized apparel and thick padded jackets.

Relaxed shirts and duvet-worthy sweaters were stacked on top of models, breaking any silhouette norms and further exaggerating the genderless lines of the collection. Staying away from the typically muted colour palettes that normally rule the season, Raf mirrored the brightness and boldness of his oversized garments and splashed vibrant reds, pinks and yellows across various pieces.

Woven into various pieces of the collection, Simons incorporated words such as “Ataraxia”, “Dichtomy”, “Devotion” and “Equanimity”, each one holding a special meaning to the designer during these tumultuous times.

Spidery long knitwear and oversized graphic shirts were complemented by the embroidery and skeletal jewellery, creating a sense of edge and comfort to the wistful collection. With the collection soundtracked by a thumping Kraftwerk production, we were left with a feeling of enthusiasm and eagerness for the winter season, a longing that only Raf Simons could create.
