Hip-hop is a genre of music that has undergone countless reinventions and phases. Emerging artist Zack Cokas is here to fuse the old and the new with his boundary-defying take on the genre.
As a self-starter that began his musical journey on GarageBand, Cokas ended up sharing his music to SoundCloud, and, with the help of his twin brother, began to gain a following. After the success of his 2020 mixtape “PABLO”, the North Carolina-based artist is releasing his latest electrifying bop. “To The Grave”, from his upcoming project “WARHOL”, is laced with pop culture references and provides an intense yet masterfully chaotic sound.
“‘To The Grave’ was a song made with extremely low pressure and no intended outcome,” explains Cokas. “As an artist, I often forget to just have fun and let the music guide the process. The track was made in a little under an hour and my brother and I had a blast creating it,” states Zack. “At the time I was under a lot of stress and used the song as an outlet, as it was made on a trip to the mountains of NC (Asheville).”
With this aggressive bop also acting as an introspective narrative from the artist that many of his fans can relate to, Zack is definitely one to watch.
