For the past 48 years, the Mauritian resort has hosted all kinds of people, often the kind that visit hoping to escape paparazzi’s and flashing lights. Alexa Chung and Grace Kelly have both passed through its doors, and if those two taste makers have chosen to spend time here, there must be something to it.
Recently redesigned, the resort stretches across four kilometres of beachfront, with tropical gardens, five restaurants and its own private island, Îlot Mangénie, just a short boat ride away – a great place to vanish to. It’s also the perfect backdrop for the holiday photos you’ll inevitably end up taking after whole days of swimming in the Indian ocean. There are two golf courses, Chi, The Spa, and never-ending beachside seafood, or if you don’t feel like moving from the sunbed, you’ll be entertained by people-watching: jet-setters, honeymooners and plenty of eccentric guests.
To celebrate its 48th birthday, Shangri-La Le Touessrok is hosting a week-long celebration.
From 18 to 25 November, the resort will host eight days of food, wellness, culture and entertainment, including a six-hands dinner from French Michelin-starred chefs Edouard Loubet and Franck Reynaud at Coco’s Beach House. Award-winning mixologist and rum expert Rafa Martin will also be behind the bar for a cocktail masterclass, you might even learn something in between the Cosmos.
Elsewhere, there’ll be yoga, Pilates, sound healing, Mauritian Night, art workshops, sporting activities and barefoot dinners on the island. The celebrations end with an anniversary gala where you’ll swap your yoga set or bikini for a gown, live performances and beachfront fireworks.
