A slice of Marrakech lands in Soho as El Fenn reimagines Broadwick Soho’s rooftop into a sun-drenched, sensory escape.

El Fenn is the luxurious hotel mere kilometres away from Morocco’s beloved Koutoubia. But now, it’s coming a little closer to home – making its mark on London cobble. This summer, it will cascade its throw over the cushions on Broadwick Soho’s rooftop.

From late June through to August, the hotel’s crown jewel, Flute, will metamorphose into an extension of the Marrakech hotel, in all of its vivacity and high-spirit. It’s a fusion of world-class experiences, taking them to new heights, quite literally. 

Think red-and-white stripes with enormous Moroccan lanterns, illuminating bold, maximalist patterns and bespoke tables. This very well could be a sensory overload, but it won’t. Care and curation go hand-in-hand in this quintessentially British take on a North African sanctuary.

Accompanying the collaboration is an exhibition curated by Hassan Hajjaj and Atay Atelier, spotlighting two contemporary voices they see as visually grounding the ethos of both cultural hotspots. Works by Marrakech-based Ismail Saidy and Nador-based Fatimazohra Serri will adorn the walls of Broadwick Soho’s Flute bar and lobby, with pieces also available to purchase. Ismail’s photography deepens the space’s dreamlike minimalism, finding poetry in textile-heavy compositions and solitary figures, while Fatimazohra’s works offer a powerful counterpoint – navigating femininity, identity and the body within conservative spaces with striking nuance. Together, the exhibition paints a thoughtful and richly layered portrait of contemporary Moroccan life.

Then, of course, there’s the menu. It boasts traditional batbout with smoked aubergine zaalouk, crisp lamb briouats paired with smoked paprika labneh, and charcoal-grilled octopus remnant of a Marrakech afternoon avec le cocktails of your choice – because you won’t want to stop at one. Hibiscus Margarita, El Fenn Mule and the Marrakech Negroni are amongst its cult favourites.

And all of this to the soundtrack of an inimitable roster of DJs and musicians bringing the sounds of Morocco to the forefront. Fully immersing all visitors in the country’s traditional rhythms and modern desert blues.
