Knucks shares his poetic, complex sophomore album, Florence + The Machine is salivating good on her sixth LP, and Chy Cartier and Lil Yachty link up: it’s a Wonderlist spooky special.
Florence + The Machine – “Sympathy Magic”
With her newly shared sixth studio album, Everybody Scream, modern icon Florence + The Machine builds majestically on her unparalleled sonic dynasty. It’s a soaring collection of songs, full of splendour and cinema, unmatched in scale and approach. Knucks – “Masquerade”
He’s been considered one of UK rap’s most consistent and compelling voices for some years now, but with his sophomore full-length record A Fine African Man, West London’s Knucks shows himself to be as eclectic and enduring as anyone in the scene. Dipping into his Nigerian heritage with West African influences oozes into the LP’s soundscapes, the rapper’s vital songwriting and technical excellence shine through across the album’s 13 thoughtful tracks.
Chy Cartier ft. Lil Yachty – “Here We Go Again”
The latest unexpected but effective cross-Atlantic link-up comes with London’s youngest-in-charge Chy Cartier enlisting US rap heavyweight Lil Yachty for a double-sided single. “Here We Go Again” is the better track, accompanied by a visual, with disorientating synths, off-kilter rhythms, and seamless chemistry from the two artists.
Obongjayar – “Give Me More”
One of the most fluid and creative artists in the UK sphere, Obongjayar will be adding further colour to his sophomore album on 20th November with the release of its deluxe edition, Paradise Now & Forever. Teasing cut “Give Me More” is as understated yet celebratory as we’ve heard the artist, with an anthemic and affecting hook and gentle acoustic guitar backdrop.
Kelly Lee Owens – “123 Techno”
Plucked from her forthcoming self-titled “KELLY” EP, and taken straight out of a dream-state, revered Welsh producer Kelly Lee Owens is back with a heady new single. “132 TECHNO” is typical Owens excellence – tight yet translucent production, washy synths and euphoric climaxes.
Love Remain ft. Jawnino – “Calm”
One of the UK’s best rising producers, Love Remain, has announced a new forthcoming mixtape, “With Every Cloud” It’s apparently his most reflective and personal work yet, and you can hear that already with this new teaser. “Calm” features the UK underground’s enigmatic savant Jawnino and is a nocturnal, immersive gem.
Eleni Drake – “Ripples”
Eleni Drake is one of those songwriters who really gets you. You relate, render the deepest emotion, and feel her voice’s warmth deep within. The British-Greek artist and producer has shared CHUCK, a truly precious new full-length album that is well worth your time – especially this dazzling and subtle lead single, “Ripples”.
Snocaps – “Coast”
It’s a glorious day for alt-Americana kids! Snocaps, the new supergroup consisting of Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield, her twin sister Allison, MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook, have dropped a self-titled debut album. It’s a wonderfully giving body of work, with lead single “Coast” a heartfelt, poignant mantra – these lot could never just coast.
Ady Suleiman – “Brother”
Taken from his forthcoming album, “Brother”, from Nottingham singer-songwriter Ady Suleiman,
is an emotional single directly inspired by the brutality behind the death of Stephen Lawrence. Ady took years to actualise and finish the song. The beautiful visualiser was shot in Zanzibar in Adys native where he spent 6 months creating the forthcoming album Chasing, which will arrive January 16th.
keiyaA – “k.i.s.s.”
Chicago-born, NYC-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer keiyaA is quickly growing her fanbase. Fresh off the back of a stint on the road with Ravyn Lenae, she shares a sophomore album, hooke’s law. Lead single“k.i.s.s.” is off-kilter yet groovy, soulful yet spiky.
Danny Brown ft. underscores – “Copycats”
The ever-elusive, compulsively creative Danny Brown is rejuvenated. He’ll drop a new album, Stardust, next Friday, 7th November, and now shares the video for the record’s last single “Copycats”. Featuring innovator underscores, the glitchy anthem is a genre-mash delight.
Mugun – “She Wah Move”
Coventry-born rapper Mugun is back, building out his thrilling, unique sound with new EP “Dissident Behaviour”. It’s ardent, creative stuff, summed up by the brilliant, chaotic lead single “She Wah Move.
HYPNOSIS THERAPY ft. Alex Wilcox – “UMJIGYEO! (MOVE!)”
Making a splash in Korea’s underground electronic scene, HYPNOSIS THERAPY’s hectic new song won’t be for everyone, but if you like your music left-field and aggressive, you’re in for a treat here. There are contributions from Nina Kraviz and BoyzNoiz collaborator Alex Wilcox, too.
Etta Marcus – “Slaughterhouse”
Etta Marcus can do no wrong. The much-revered singer-songwriter has unveiled her latest excellent project in “Devour”, via Polydor Records, a move into crunchy, punkier territory whilst still upholding her twinkling songwriting. “Slaughterhouse” is the standout lead cut.
Léa Sen – “GHOSTWRITER (UNPLUGGED)”
London-based French singer, songwriter, and producer Léa Sen is currently touring with Loyle Carner and has dropped a single from a forthcoming re-imagination project of her debut album LEVELS. “GHOSTWRITER (UNPLUGGED)” is a glimpse into the wider project, a beautiful stripped-back cut with acoustic arpeggios and decadent vocals.
woody – “over n’ out”
Rising singer-songwriter and producer woody has a voice as soft as melted butter. He’s just shared a debut project, “highs, lows & stargazing”, with a heart-rendering, gentle, and deeply memorable lead single and project closer “over n’ out”.
Samara Cyn – “vitamins n minerals”
Atop a dusty old school beat, Samara Cyn never sounds smoother. She’s, bar-for-bar, one of the best in the States right now, out right, and new single “vitamins n minerals” is sure fire.
Medium Build & Sydney Rose – “Sympathy Is A Knife”
Two mainstays of the alt country movement, Medium Build and Sydney Rose, have collaborated on an impact cover of one of last year’s songs of the summer. Charli xcx’s “Sympathy Is A Knife” has never sounded so sincere.
better joy – “big thief”
Manchester-born indie-pop artist better joy has unveiled a brand new EP, “at dusk”, and announced a UK and Ireland headline tour. Standout track “big thief” is a euphoric, 90s-indebted number with dreamy vocals and bright, benign instrumentation.
Aime Simone ft. Peter Doherty – “WERWOLF”
Opening with Doherty’s evocative spoken-word prelude, “WEREWOLF” unfolds as a haunted, cinematic confession. Aime Simone cuts through with ghostly restraint as the collaboration reflects years of shared sensitivity and artistic kinship.
Cobrah – “Torn”
Experimenting with the crevices of pop, experimental auteur Cobrah drops the high-octane “Torn”. There’s something quite FKA twigs-coded about the track, whilst Cobrah’s unique artistic lens shines through, building to a hell of a climax. One to get you ready for a spooky session ahead tonight.
Maya Randle – “let you in”
Birmingham’s Maya Randle returns with new release “let you in”, a razor-sharp display of her production finesse. Anchored by powerful percussive basslines and skittering hi-hats, the track layers atmospheric, pitch-shifted vocals to striking effect. “let you in” serves as another timely reminder of the youngstar’s innate ability in crafting some of the most forward-thinking dnb music emanating from these shores.
Claire Brooks – “Mortal Hide”
Blurring the lines between sound and form, rising singer-songwriter and producer Claire Brooks returns with her powerful new cut “Mortal Hide”. The young talent continues to look inward, questioning her own existence and the shadowed affinities hiding in the folds of her reality.
JBEE x Kidwild – “If I Lose”
