Bon Iver, Jeff Buckley, Zach Bryan: rising Americana crooner Bo Staloch rounds up the tracks he had On Repeat whilst making his new EP “The Garden”.
Finding a rich and resplendent middle ground between warming folk and twangy Americana, Austin-raised, Nashville-based singer-singer Bo Staloch has found a home at the heart of the US country movement.
His new six track EP “The Garden” is a personal and precise picture of Staloch’s craft and character, brimming with anthemic hooks, a dense and uplifting emotional potency, and colourful, naturalistic sonic palettes. To celebrate the new work, Staloch rounds up the tracks he had On Repeat whilst creating it.

Bon Iver – “Wash”
Everything Bon Iver has ever done will always find a way to inspire me. I could have chosen any one of his songs. His creativity and singularity when it comes to sounds, melodies, lyricism, structure, etc is unreal and inspires me with every song in his discography. “Wash” in particular has a way of bringing you on a journey throughout the song and that is something I wanted to chase too.
Gregory Alan Isokov – “Miles to Go”
Similar to Bon Iver, I could have chosen any one of Gregory’s songs because they have all inspired me. His songs feel complete. They feel intentional and thoughtful. I find “Miles to Go” to be a special one because we get to hear Gregory in his higher and more intense register vocally, which is usually how I sing, and his vocal delivery is unlike anyone else, so I tried to take what I could from the master!
Kings of Leon – “Pick up Truck”
The energy of this song is addicting and contagious. It feels important and unstoppable. Obviously, those are all very inspiring words and things we strived to achieve with every song in the project.
Pinegrove – “Orange”
Pinegrove will always hold a special place in my heart and on my Spotify account. The melodies and harmonies are unbelievable and the fluidity of their songs are so unique. I love how each song of theirs moves and feels different.
Bon Iver – “Speyside”
I couldn’t only mention him once… This song was released when I was really head down on creating this project. I was fully immersed in music at the time and it struck me to the core. From the first second guitar to the last, this song has you infatuated the whole entire time.
Coldplay – “We Never Change”
Chris Martin’s voice has always been a huge inspiration to me. Not only the tone but the range and delivery is iconic. It is raw and interesting to listen to and then you add on the beautiful lyrics… game over.
Jeff Buckley – “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”
This is a perfect song. It’s stuck with me for a very, very long time. The story, the delivery of the story, the emotion behind the singing and the production, the whole entire song from the engineering to the songwriting is just perfect. Its art and emotion perfectly combined.
Zach Bryan – “Bass Boat”
Zach was a huge part in me starting to write my own songs in high school. He carries so much weight and power behind his pen and the words he uses. His voice is as raw as it gets and it forces you to listen to it intentionally, which is my favourite part about it. Bass Boat is a masterpiece of a song.
Current Joys – “East My Love”
The first time I heard “East My Love” I was moved to tears. The sonic pallet of this record is incomparable to anything I’ve ever heard yet it is so familiar. It just feels so right. This song feels natural to listen to. With every turn the song makes you make it right there with it almost instinctively. The familiarity is what inspired me most about this song.
Gregory Alan Isokov – “Wings in All Black”
I couldn’t get away without mentioning Gregory twice either. Incredible song. The song’s hook is so unconventional but it works so well and you just crave to hear it again and again.
