There’s something powerful about Σtella’s decision to sing in her Greek mother tongue for her fifth studio album, Adagio. Across the last decade, the singer-songwriter has built a reputation for luscious and daring dream pop and indie folk, building kaleidoscopic sonic landscapes for her deft, thoughtful songwriting to peruse within.
This fifth record is among her most chiseled and colourful work. It’s a pop work at its core, with light, vibrant productions and subtly anthemic hooks finding themselves sprawled across the tight 26 and a half minute runtime. A compelling and compassionate writer and performer, Σtella’s ever evolving sonic identity has once again been condensed into a gorgeous collection of music.

Nick Carr – “Swahili”
When I first found this song, it took a minute before I realised the person behind it, no other than the very famous Greek singer-songwriter and record producer Nikos Karvelas. Here, under the stage name of Nick Carr, released independently in 1985. What a gem!
