Tim Burton fans, you’re in for a treat! The gothic director-producer-writer-animator extraordinaire is back with the follow up to his 1988 cult classic, Beetlejuice, which sees Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe join original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. First announced in early 2023, following Ortega’s brilliant work with Burton on Netflix series Wednesday, the sequel instantly garnered global excitement — which has not faded, even as the SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed its production and, therefore, its release date. But now, our patience has paid off.

The first of the franchise followed the ghosts of the recently deceased Maitlands couple, unable to leave their house, as they contact the bio-exorcist Betelgeuse to scare their home’s new occupants — the Deetz family — away. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, or Beetlejuice 2 as it’s also referred to, takes place decades after the original, when an unexpected family tragedy brings three generations of the Deetzes back to their old home.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is out in theatres September 6.
