Multifaceted artist rei brown has created a captivating artistic vision, expressing his identity and personal stories through his art while engaging intimately with his audience. As a queer artist, rei boldly steps into the spotlight, delivering heartfelt and introspective pieces like ‘Could I be SomeBody’. With ‘Get Me Out’, rei continues to overcome cultural barriers.

Co-produced by Frankie Scoca (known for NewJeans and dhruv) and co-written by JBACH (credited with works for Jason DeRulo and Barbie OST), ‘Get Me Out’ sees rei directly addressing today’s youth grappling with mental health issues. Against a backdrop of distorted, minimalist sound, rei’s vulnerable lyrics and unique vocals shine, making for a compelling track that resonates deeply with listeners.

Speaking on the track, rei shares “’Get Me Out’ was one of the first songs I made after Xeno. I had just gotten off of a series of tours, one of which, I had an episode of psychosis/derealization. Unfortunately, it’s not a new experience for me either, I’ve had a bunch of ‘episodes’ or incidents for the past 10 years. It was impossible to communicate what I was going through to my friends, and worst of all, I still had to go on stage and perform most nights. I kind of went to sleep wondering how I even get through it all… As always it kind of just eventually got better, but I think when I was writing the chorus, I subconsciously just drew from that recent experience.”

Moving onto the video, rei explains “The video is something I’m so excited about. Daniel and I were supposed to make a music video years ago but COVID happened and the whole thing got scrapped. During that time he went and directed a feature film while I put out Xeno, and I think we both grew during that time. It feels somewhat serendipitous to be reconnecting on this.”

The accompanying video, written and directed by Daniel Antebi, marks a significant venture into experimental filmmaking. Working alongside cinematographer Liam Reardon and videographer/editor Jake Oleson, the team employed emerging AI technology to create a visually striking and enigmatic piece. The film, driven by intensity and distortion, vividly captures the struggles of mental health, portraying the unsettling feeling of being trapped within one’s own mind.
